| DESIGN NAME: Biomedical Engagement Ring PRIMARY FUNCTION: Jewelry- Ring INSPIRATION: My inspiration for this ring was the Study of Bio-mechanics and studying the structure and function of biological systems. I'm inspired by the built environment - architecture made by humans - and the natural environment. In nature, things are not always perfect. So incorporating Sleek designs with a imperfect nature feel, I have a "compelling simplicity" that include architectural elements with a handmade feel. Architecture was also a critical influence and inspiration on the construction of the form and strength of the ring. I find the mechanics of structure aesthetically intriguing, and often instructive on a technical level when it comes to building jewelry. I think sleek bio mechanical architectural jewelry designs is a great addiction to anyone's fashion wardrobe. Working with Biological and mechanical inspirations allows the Geometry in the architectural ring have contours that it might not usually possess My Jewelry designs try's to incorporated a variety of unique architectural, creating a bold and visually impressive overall looks. By infusing architectural aspects ,intricate geometric patterns, and fusing them with a bio-mechanical feel the jewelry design makes a ordinary ring look much more futuristic and complex. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The eye catching design of the Urban Minimalist Ring is the result of the synchronicity of the mirror image of the ring and the architectural and nature mix of design. The pure perfection of the simplicity of the negative space. The absence of content does not mean the absence of interest. The negative space adds a stronger emphasis on the design. The complimentary forms of Man vs. Nature and with the addition of the brilliant shin of the diamonds/colored stones all balances the use of organic shapes and geometric structure without sacrificing the beauty of a minimalist design . OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The ring is a piece of jewelry and can be worn like any other ring. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Project took a few months to complete and it was all created in my Los Angeles Design Studio |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Ring was designed, using Matrix CAD rendering and then printed using a CPX Printing was machine. Once the wax was printed we used a lost wax casting method to cast the wax into 18K gold. Cleaning and polishing the hollow parts inside the ring is time consuming and requires care since it will be showing, but well worth the effort. After the parts are completed, a laser welder is used in the next phase of the ring.. The utmost care is needed in order not to damage the previous steps of the work already done. From whatever angle one looks at the ring , the ring appears as if it were a different design, that is one of the elements that make this ring so unique. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The 18K White and Yellow Gold rings. The measurements of the ring will varry depending of ring size. The Rings Uses different stones in each ring, Bright Orange , blue and yellow Sapphires, Diamonds The Ring uses round faceted bright stones. Center stone is a 7mm round, with 52 accents stones measuring in a descending size order of 2.5mm to 1mm TAGS: Urban, Minimalist, Urban minimalist, 18K ring, engagement ring, Takayas Mizuno, custom Jewelry RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Research was done searching for architectural structural, minimalist nature structures, bio-mechanical art, bio-mechanical structures and sells. CHALLENGE: The biggest challenge was how to recreate the design from the computer model to the actual ring. The design had to be created in a way that the casting would be able to build the whole ring in parts and still maintain the integrity of the unique structure and shape.
