DESIGN NAME: Tangible
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Lamp
INSPIRATION: The concept borns from the poem "Vicina agli occhi" by Pier Paolo Pasolini; formal and conceptual inspirations derive from architecture of Alvaro Siza, particularly from the Portuguese Pavilion; the suggestions of light derive from light cuts in the architecture and the inspirations of matter derive from their processing characteristics and visual match.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: My project is a lamp and its strength is expressed by the essentiality of form, what makes it interesting is the ability to increase and decrease the brightness of the LED using a touch membrane: this gesture portrays the tactility of the beam bright.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The ignition of the luminous device is done with a touch switch recessed in the rear of the base.
Corian is present on the surface membrane sensor able to make "tangible" the beam of the LED, located in the groove in the top of the base, so as to increase or decrease the brightness.
Over the finger moves upward and over the LED increases the brightness stretching his light beam as if it were to follow the movement.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in October 2013 and ended in February.
FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Lighting Products and Fixtures Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The lamp base is mahogany wood worked with a numerical control machine.
The curved surface is a 4 mm sheet of Corian thermo formed, was subsequently milled with a toupie to insert the sensor.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The dimension of lamp are 250 mm x 250 mm x 345 mm.
TAGS: Touch, basic, contrast, tangible, elegant.
RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research that has been done by the sensor positioned in the part of the laptops touchpad for scrolling the pages viewed , when you have found a manufacturer has been tested the sensor and it was noticed that there was a need to manage the output signal from this device . At this point it was decided to use Arduino to create a program that can handle the signal from the membrane.
CHALLENGE: The challenge of this project was to be able to achieve an effect of tangibility of the light beam , the technology used is not too complex, but there was no need of an electronic board . The obstacles encountered were those able to find the components that were unable to keep all ' inside of the crankcase so as not to see anything. This lamp is perfectly feasible with the most common technology.
