DESIGN NAME: Mia
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Washbasin
INSPIRATION: The designer, inspired by handicrafts and primitive pottery, has focused on detail and relation between surface and touch. The form gives the impression of being manually shaped on a pottery wheel. The characteristic line of the product emphasizes the precision of manufacturing and technological possibilities of the material. The matt finishing gives a warm sensation while touching the surface.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Thanks to its optimal shape, the Mia washbasin guarantees comfort of use. The form gives the impression of being manually shaped on a pottery wheel. The characteristic line of the product emphasizes the precision of manufacturing and technological possibilities of the material. Mia is very durable, resistant to scratches and ageing. The matt finishing gives a warm sensation while touching the surface. It is available in four shapes and different colours.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Optimal shape of the Mia washbasin guarantees comfort of use. The depth of the bowl gives the freedom of using for example allows to wash the hair in it. Internal form of Mia prevents water from splashing.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in October 2013 and finished in Dicember 2013 in Poznan, and will be exhibited in arena DESIGN in Poznan.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The product is made of of the recyclable and easy to repair material (cast marble) that consists of approximately 70 procent of natural ground marble and polyester resin. The result of polymerization is composite that combines the natural hardness of stone with the flexibility of resin. The used raw material accumulates the heat and as a result water keeps its temperature longer. The material maintains the elegance of natural marble stone.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Dimensions:
Height: 172mm or 122mm.
Width: 450mm, or 432mm, or 420 mm, or 380mm.
Depth: 150mm, or 100mm.
Declaration of Performance No. 400/02/13 CE,
Wide access to research results regarding:

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The hardest part of this design activity was to implement a complete design process. What becomes critical was to decline which of the design methods are best suited to improve innovation and problem solving processes and at which stage of those processes design methods shall be introduced. Therefor we use design thinking methods such as: mind mapping, brainstorming, scenarios, story board, personas, mockups and prototypes during designing process.
CHALLENGE: First challenge was to achieved a collaborative and multidisciplinary approach that takes into account design methods. The second one was to deal with the production and material preformance.
