DESIGN NAME: Educational center for kids
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Educational Center for Kids
INSPIRATION: The design theme was inspired by the history of Kfar Shemaryahu, originally an agricultural community, hence the agricultural motifs at the core of the concept. The compound's title, "The Seven Species", was derived from the bible symbolizing the fertility of the land. Each kindergarten is signified by their names: Olive (Zayit), Palm (Tamar), Pomegranate (Rimon), Wheat (Hita), Fig (Te’ena) and Vine (Gefen). Each distinctive character served as a design code: color scheme, components and graphic motifs. The lobby design follows a language of an agricultural village, beginning the journey of the child through sculptural amorphous islands on which Lego-like trees tower. The design task was to connect the children to the rustic roots of the place, using basic shapes and raw materials such as plywood and solid wood and is inspired by traditional wooden toys.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: A unique educational center promoting imagination and creativity by interior designer Sarit Shani Hay. It spans a cluster of six kindergartens ages 3-6, a play commons, and an empowerment center, where each functions as an independent unit with its own identity, and together they form an educational space offering a friendly, informal environment.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The kindergarten design was carried out through profound dialogue with the architects of the building Shoshany Architects and the local council, following observation of the kindergarten children and in collaboration with pedagogues and educators.
Behind the idea of the "Seven Species" is a pedagogical theme which reflects the ideology of the complex, calling for social tolerance and acceptance of every child regardless, namely—embracing the other. The cluster offers children a protective safe setting for three kindergarten years, enabling them to grow and prosper with a sense of confidence.
