DESIGN NAME: Baretto
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Trolley Bottle Carrier
INSPIRATION: Reuse industrial objects and hybridize with craft to create unique new pieces: functional, colored, vintage and modern in the same time.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The traditional bottle crate has always been used for glass bottled water home delivery, but now its concept has been rethought and reborn as a contemporary home mini bar.
Baretto comprises a bottle crate set under a highly functional worktop. The whole structure is mounted on wheels, so as to be easily moved around in different areas, and fit to the manifold aspects of modern living.
The unique shapes and colours of each crate make any version of Baretto a one-off piece, the real beating heart of a new mini bar redesigned with a modern vision. In short, from a static and cumbersome furnishing accessory it has become a versatile and lively object.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Baretto is made by a bottle crate and a practical little worktop; both fixed on wheels that make it movable easily in different spaces, adapting his presence to the needs of contemporary living.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in May 2013 in Milan and finished in August 2013 in Milan.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The MDF worktops, in many different colours, create contrast or play with the predominant hues of every single crate, allowing a high degree of customisation based on specific customer needs.
The use of steel mounting rods and hinges ensure optimal reliability, while the wheels guarantee the maximum level of functionality.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Re-use and re-interpretation of a simple product generate an exclusive design object that declines its uniqueness in endless combinations of shapes and colours. The philosophy behind Baretto focuses on the 'recycling'; concept, which lends a 'vintage' flavour: an old crate lives again and is transformed under a modern and eco-friendly light.
CHALLENGE: During the development of the project we had several problems regarding the acquisition of rights for the use of the plastic boxes. Another obstacles was the cut of MDF tops with a numerical control cutting machine.
