DESIGN NAME: Chongqing Flower And City Sales Office
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Sales Office
INSPIRATION: With the name ‘Flower and City’, designers selected the ‘flower’ and ‘kaleidoscope’ as their main design elements. The designers simulate the effect of looking through a kaleidoscope by the use of irregular wall edges and different colors of ball decorations. Polygonal, angular, artificial, are how people would describe a kaleidoscope. Throughout the whole sales office, all the walls and ceilings are neatly finished with polygonal and triangular forms in white. Designers deliberately ‘shaped’ the walls to uneven irregular triangles to depict abstract presentation of kaleidoscope. Spheres which are hanging on the wall are covered with seven different colors to symbolize the colourful flowers greeting kaleidoscope, scattered and disorderly, with the magic twist of the kaleidoscope. Designers use the spheres as an abstract method to illustrate how ‘flower’ would look like under the influence of the kaleidoscope, highlighting the flower in its most basic structural elements.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: There are always conflicts between different thoughts and attitudes. Urban development is usually seemed as threat against conservation of natural greenery. But what if we could source out the similarities of two substances and merge them into a new compound? We are trying to find the answer from a kaleidoscope and views of flowers through it. Polygonal, angular, artificial, are how people describe a kaleidoscope. Yet while looking at curved and organic flowers through a kaleidoscope, the difference between two different substances is amazingly clashed together and blended into one special view that contain the trace of both. The compound itself is what made this place become a city with sync.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The principle of dream world is altered by change of design strategy here by some means, in order to emphasizing both substances simultaneously that form this synchronous city, as well as the kinetic movement within them.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project finished in October 2012 in Chongqing, China.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Just to imagine a walk from the flower fields to the snowy mountains in the adjacent Kunming province, the overwhelming multi-chrome of flowers gradually descends into the cleanness of white snow terrain.
CHALLENGE: Client Objectives and program: It’s a sales office for a residential project called ‘Flower & City’. The client wants something out of the ordinary, which could stand out from all other regular sales office. Flowers are also being grown outside the sales office, in order to match up with the whole theme.
