| DESIGN NAME: Allison - Kindle Living PRIMARY FUNCTION: Patio Heater and Lamp INSPIRATION: It’s pretty simple, really. I saw a need and set out to fill it. Sure, it’s a heart or lamp, but so much more. It’s lifestyle by way of mood, atmosphere, function and style. It’s a Cinderella transformation to a product that, until now, has been completely overlooked. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Allison Kindle Heater has transformed the unattractive, long outdated, approach of outdoor heating and given it a sense of beauty and elegance never before offered. Its design vastly improves heating performance; while lights, cocktail table, easy transport, and color options add to its captivating personality. The Allison is handmade in California from materials that are handsome, durable, and recyclable. The Allison Kindle Heater is style and glamour, ambiance and inspiration, heat, light, color and mood offered in ways you’ve never imagined before. Utility and design patents where filled on August of 2008. Testing took the better part of two years, with the first Kindle Heater being introduced in the Fall of 2010. Since then color choices and options have been added to include Li-Ion battery powered LED white and programable multi colored lights, cocktail tables, Dolly cart which makes moving log distances effortless, color trim rings that can be changed to match the decor, etc. The Kindle Living line has also expanded into a family of heaters and lights with different designs. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The marriage of function and design culminate in a groundbreaking transformation. Aside from its obvious sculptural appeal, the design of the Kindle Heater results in a more effective heating canopy. Instead of the heat dissipating as it rises, the shade directs it downward, using in a chimney-like effect, enveloping the user in consistent warmth that is softer, more pleasant, than with a stand-alone unit. Pilot re-lighting or uneven burner flame caused by the slightest breeze is mitigated as the shade acts as a shield that, like a hurricane lantern, protects the heater’s engine from the elements. Each shade is lined with a revolutionary, patented, Firewall Protection for added safety and improved performance. The Firewall in effect acts like a mirror, reflecting the heat across your entire body (rather than burning just your head), in an even, much more pleasant and effective manner than traditional heaters. It also withstands temperature burst in excess of 1000C! The Kindle Heater shells are made of 100% recyclable composite materials that had to also be developed to be highly heat, impact, dent, and scratch resistant, UV protected (so it wont fade in the sun), virtually chemical proof, and easy to clean for years of good looks. Despite it's enormous worldwide success, little meaningful development has taken place in last 50+ years, except for making the product cheap and virtually disposable after a season of use. The lack of product innovation, confirmed now by multiple utility and design patents applications and trademarks throughout the world, created a real opportunity to rethink what people should come to expect in terms of design and function from a patio heater. The beauty that is Kindle Living is easily apparent, creating the true magic of a "Cinderella&quo CHALLENGE: In order to overcome it's mechanical as well as aesthetic shortcomings, new materials and manufacturing techniques had to either be created or adapted. As an example, our patented and certified Firewall shade liner can withstand the immense heat generated, with burst in excess of 1000C, while reflecting the infrared energy a manner that greatly improves heating performance and user comfort. The composite resins that make the body and shade, for instance, are specially formulated to our specifications to withstand the tremendous heat, while being durable, friendly to the environment, easy to maintain, virtually chemical proof, UV sun protected, and of course beautiful. All told, some 6 years have now been dedicated to the ideation, development, testing, certification, and branding of what we now call Kindle Living.
