| DESIGN NAME: Xtreme Lip-Shaper® System PRIMARY FUNCTION: Instant Natural Lip Enlargement Device INSPIRATION: MY PERSONAL STORY OF HOW CANDYLIPZ XTREME LIP-SHAPER® SYSTEM WAS INVENTED. I was born with full lips. But shortly after I turned 35, my lips began to lose their youthful appearance. Gravity had forced my lips to shrink and flatten. My upper lip looked too long and the arches that outlined my upper lip, my Cupid’s Bow sagged and so did the corners of my mouth! I also showed less of my top teeth and more of my lower teeth when I talked. I was frustrated and unhappy. I was reminded of my aging lips on a daily basis. Every time I looked into a mirror, there they were. At first, I tried to correct my lip problems by using “tricks of the trade” to mask them. I used lip liners, lip glosses, and lipsticks to give me back that pouty lips look. But I was unsatisfied with the illusion I had created. It looked like as though I were trying much too hard. My four-year old niece tried to emulate me by using lipstick to draw a huge line way above her upper lip border and pointed proudly to her face. She shouted to everyone in the room, "This is Aunty Thienna!" I felt I had become a clown! In 2004, out of desperation I visited a plastic surgeon in Houston, Texas for a thread lip lift. It’s a noninvasive procedure in which fine threads are placed to gently pull from one nostril to the other and down to the arches of the upper lip to achieve the lip lift. After 45 minutes of in-take consultation, I left the office as fast as I could. I had seen the results of the thread lip lift. The doctor’s nurse had had the procedure done by the doctor himself. Her nostrils and the arches of her upper lip were asymmetrical! They looked stiff and unnatural. I was SAVED just in time! I would not be spending $5K to ruin my face. In 2006, the thin lip blues hit me again. I went to visit a plastic surgeon in San Francisco, where I live. He suggested a procedure called lip lift advancement. In it, a strip of skin is removed directly above the white roll- the border between the upper lip and the skin- to shorten the upper lip and restore the arches of the Cupid’s Bow. He said the risks of this procedure included scarring on the upper lip and the possibility of permanent stiffness of both lips. I dropped the idea immediately. In 2007, I tried temporary lip injections. The first time I had water injected into my lips. I am a very cautious person. So to see what I might look like if I used the injection process, I decided to try water injection first. If I didn’t like the results, at least I wouldn’t have to live with them for three to six months. The results? I looked like I had sausage lips! The procedure had been painful and it left my lips seriously bruised all over. But the sausage lips experience wasn’t quite enough to cure my curiosity about lip injections. I had my lips injected again twice in 2007. Anything to maintain my pout! Each time I had one and one-half syringes of Perlane Hyaluronic Acid injected into my lips at a cost of $800 a pop. The worst part of my lip injection experience was that my pouty lips did not last the three months I had been told to expect; they only lasted for about four weeks! This was turning out to be an expensive lesson with very unsatisfying results. It wasn’t worth the pain or the lumps I was developing in my lips. Not to mention the cost. I was through with injections! But I still had the problem of my aging lips. To solve it, I created a revolutionary breakthrough system based on a technology no doctor or plastic surgeon can match- and with results no one has been able to achieve for thousand of years of trying. I call it CandyLipz. INSPIRATION: How I Came Up With The Idea: I have to thank my grandfather for this. While I was growing up in Vietnam, I often saw my grandfather using cupping therapy to improve circulation in his body. Chinese cupping therapy is an ancient therapy dating back to 3500 years ago. Cupping therapy is a method of using glass cups with fire to generate a local suction on the skin to help release trapped toxins from deep tissues and to help improve cell’s oxygen movements. It also improves nutrient uptake. I remembered that where the glass cups were applied to my grandfather’s back, the skin raised to a half round dome, which resembled half of a tomato. Using this same concept, I was able to invent the Xtreme Lip-Shaper® System. Although the concept was very simple, the structural design of the mouthpieces and the pressure of the pumps were very challenging and tricky. It took me nearly three years to meticulously test the design 101 ways to ensure it works beautifully. How I discovered the Double-Lobed Lips Invention? When I was a 7 or 8 years old, I loved to play with rubber bands. I would wear a load of them around my wrist. My mom always scolded me and asked me to remove them because she said they cut off my wrist circulation. After I took them off, I always saw these indented circular rings around my wrist. At the time, I was inventing Xtreme Lip-Shaper® System, I thought maybe the lips might work the same way and they did! That was a Eureka moment for me! Thank you mom! (I must thank my dad too as my dad worked as a goldsmith since he was 7 years old. He has tools around the house so I have been inventing since I was 15 years old.) Lip surgery and injections also carry many risks include scarring, infections, asymmetrical issues, nerve damage, implant migration, and lip nodules. According to RealSelf survey, 80 percent of people who used these methods were very unsatisfied with the results. Many people came out having stiff sausage lips. Believe it or not, the upper and lower lips develop and reach their maximum fullness at different times. The female upper lip fully develops at the age of 14 and stays full until the age of 16. After that, the upper lip gradually starts to thin out. The female lower lip reaches maximum fullness a little later – at the age of 18 – and it starts to thin out after that. For males, both lips reach maximum fullness at the age of 16 and then start to thin out. Scientists have established that surgeons cannot correct the aging of lips. To create or restore the pouty look, both the lips and the area above them need to be enhanced. As you age, the area between the nose the upper lip lengthens, flattens, and becomes less full. The dimple and raised vertical columns of skin above the upper lip – known as the philtrum – protrude less and lose their definition. Unfortunately, current surgical and injection methods do not make the lips look completely natural. Surgeons can shorten the distance between the upper lip and the nose using methods such as the sub-nasal skin excision and the vermillion advancement technique, but both leave a visible scar. If you enhance just the lips using lip injection methods or other methods that target the lips alone, you may look like you have stiff “trout” or “blown up” lips. To authentically rejuvenate the lips, the area above the upper lip must also be enhanced – it’s this that gives you the pouty look you desire. Current methods such as lip surgery and lip injections also carry risks including scarring, implant migration, lip nodules, nerve damage, and lip asymmetry. In addition, these methods are expensive, as a result, many people are unable to afford them. For examples, lip surgery can cost between $5000 to $8000 and lip injections from $400 to $800 a session where patients must return at least twice a year to maintain their pouty lips. The results from my experiment showed that by using my 100% natural suction method coupled with advanced lip shaper technology, all 100 users were able to enhance, shape, and contour their lips in 2 minutes and the look lasts for 2 hours. CHALLENGE: There are many challenges for my project. 1) It was very difficult to manufacture the inner mouthpiece without getting mold lines. If you have mold lines in the internal structure, you will get the lines on your lips. 2. To be able to raised the arches of the upper lip, the upper chamber of the mouthpiece has a gradual raised bulge of 6.35 mm. This bulge was impossible to produce as told by many engineers. However, I was able to do the impossible by splicing the mouthpiece in a particular way and put it back without creating mold lines in the internal structure of the mouthpiece. 3. The center of the mouthpiece has a horizontal platform to divide the upper and lower chamber of the mouthpiece. This platform has a 3.18 mm slit. The purpose of this slit is to reduce suction to the top chamber of the mouthpiece. Too much suction on the upper chamber will cause the upper lip to develop too quick. Thus, the result will be a duck pointy upper lip and a lumpy one. However, with very skillful manufacturing methods of splicing the mouthpiece and how each part was put together without the mold lines, I was able produce the results I desire. 4) It was very difficult to find the right pump's durometer for the lips. If the pump's material is too soft and has a lower bounce back effect, the pump will not work at all. In conclusion, from diligent testing and finding the right manufacturing practices, I was able to resolve all my issues.
