| DESIGN NAME: Conticross PRIMARY FUNCTION: Work table INSPIRATION: I was asked to create a good looking tough table for a showroom. Against the idea of going typical with a solid looking base forced me to think in the opposite direction which created Conticross. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Conticross, a simple, sleek and moreover a tough table gathers the capacity of holding more than 200kgs of weight on it. The cross legged design being the core strength supports the entire table from the centre making it comfortable for use unlike shaky tables. The uniqueness is by providing bent legs flowing down which softens the look of the table versus the regular table. The finishing materials and colour combinations of the top & bottom can be customized making it suitable for any kind of space. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Conticross can be used as a work table, display table, dining table, etc. This table was mainly created for a furnishings showroom to display big and small fabric or wallpaper catalogs. The base is tough and not shaky which allows any kind of rough use like 'accidentally banging a heavy object on the table'. It is durable and can bear quite a lot of weight. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Conticross was created during the month of August 2013 for a furnishing showroom in Pune, India. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Conticross base is made of a M.S. Section which is hammered to get the bend on each leg. Two parts of the legs have been created which is then welded together. Spray painted with automotive paint after grinding and smoothing the unevenness caused by hammering. For additional support, a M.S. Section is welded in the intersection point of the table. The base & top is then fixed with 10 screws of size 1.5". The top is of wood, cladded with black solid acrylic surface on 5 sides. The bottom of the wood is matt polished. Each leg base has a pvc buffer to avoid scratches on floors while moving. The rendered images are created using Rhinoceros & Vray then converted into 2D Autocad 2011 to begin the work process. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Overall Dimensions - 1524 mm x 914 mm x 853 mm, Top thickness - 76 mm, M.S. Section thickness - 10mm, M.S. Section width - 76 mm. TAGS: Table, Sleek, Contemporary, Strong, Tough, Custom finishes, metal, wood. RESEARCH ABSTRACT: - CHALLENGE: The idea was to avoid any kind of bridge support between the M.S. sections and thus, achieved a seamless design. NAME: Augst Furnishings PROFILE: Augst is the client. Redefining the soft furnishing industry in India. This quaint corner boutique store at Chowpatty, housed in a historic building near the Babulnath Temple area, is not intimidating or glitzy but can be well described as ‘Intimate personal’. With two stores now on either side of the Mumbai map, Augst brings to our shores fabrics so delectable that they are actually wearable! Inviting, in the tropical heat of not only this city, but also all of India. A place where you can bring your Architect, partake of refreshments, or even sit our inhouse store consultants, who will take you through the collections, sourced from all over the globe. Interestingly all the fabrics are exhibited and presented in catalogues and hanger samples only, so no looking through rolls of heavy fabrics as conventionally done. Here at Augst entire combinations of sofa coverings, cushions, curtains, either contrasting or matching with the catalogue pictures to assist in visually envisaging the final outcome.
