OMNI CLIP

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Sustainable Shoe Holder

INSPIRATION:
OMNICLIP is a sustainable packaging and product design to address the sustainability issue by using less material for more use. Made of pulp and plastic bag, OMNICLIP can be reused or recycled unlike other shoe boxes. shoe box + tissue paper + paper pulp + plastic bag: getting rid of other packaging supplies replaced by Omniclip. It is easier inventory for employees at store or customers to keep and reuse the packaging as display and without trashing all packaging after purchase.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Sustainable Branding, Packaging, and Product Design The new shoe packaging "OMNI CLIP" offers a systematic display of shoe products that satisfies customer's needs instantly. The redesign is practical and environmentally friendly. It is a packaging method that eliminates boxes, tissue paper, and plastic bags, which helps preserve the environment and simplify your life. Less material, more use. The form functions as plastic bag, shoe box, paper pulp, and tissue paper. Made of 100% recycled PETG material, the clip is reusable. The curve of the clip holds shoe and replaces box. It makes inventories easier. OMNIclip produces 11 times less volume of trashes compare to current shoe boxes. OMNIclip enhances breathability by allowing air to flow through like in tunnel that it helps shoes to keep fresh and last longer.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
OMNICLIP was designed on a feature-by-feature basis to fully address both display needs and sustainability concerns. By enhancing convenience of shoe packing and display, it satisfies both shoe shop employees and customers when packing/unpacking, carrying, and displaying shoes. Less material used in producing OMNICLIP saves the cost as well as the environment. OMNICLIP is a new concept of shoe packing, which offers various benefits to various beneficiaries.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
At a shoe shop, it is often the case that an employee brings several shoe boxes to a customer at a time for his/her selection. It takes time for an employee to find the requested shoes, gather all shoe boxes, and pack and repack them. The new shoe packaging "OMNI CLIP" is a packing method which offers a systematic display of shoe products and eliminates boxes, tissue paper, and plastic bags from conventional shoe boxes. It is environmentally friendly by reducing significantly the volume of trash from show box and utilizing 100% recycled PETG material and reusable clip.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
OMNICLIP was also designed to increase visibility of shoe products, enhance display space efficiency, and save costs in producing shoe boxes. Without conventional type of boxes, OMNICLIP offers customers immediate visibility of shoe products from the display rack. After purchase, customers can display their favorite shoes tidily and visibly at home. Its light-weight slimmer design with a convenient grip for display allows more products to be displayed in less space. The sturdy design made of less material significantly reduces production cost for conventional shoe box. In addition, OMNIclip enhances breathability of displayed shoes by facilitating airflow through the tunnel-like design, which helps shoes keep fresh and last longer.

CHALLENGE:
Since the existing, conventional shoe boxes do not offer immediate visibility, it is more likely that a shoe shop employee cannot find a wrong pair of shoes stored in a box, which is often the case. This inconvenience does not simply aggravate the labor of the employee. In a worst case scenario, a customer will also end up finding her having purchased a wrong pair of shoes when reopening the shoe box at home. Even after a successful purchase of shoes, a customer may find another problem with the conventional shoe box—a big volume of wastes. According to my research interview, people did not keep the shoe boxes at home. In most cases, shoe boxes were dumped in the garbage as they are, causing a big volume of wastes. In this inconvenience and inefficiency were found a huge design opportunity.
