PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: At a shoe shop, it is often the case that an employee brings several shoe boxes to a customer at a time for his/her selection. RESEARCH ABSTRACT: OMNICLIP was also designed to increase visibility of shoe products, enhance display space efficiency, and save costs in producing shoe boxes. Without conventional type of boxes, OMNICLIP offers customers immediate visibility of shoe products from the display rack. After purchase, customers can display their favorite shoes tidily and visibly at home. Its light-weight slimmer design with a convenient grip for display allows more products to be displayed in less space. The sturdy design made of less material significantly reduces production cost for conventional shoe box. In addition, OMNIclip enhances breathability of displayed shoes by facilitating airflow through the tunnel-like design, which helps shoes keep fresh and last longer.
CHALLENGE: Since the existing, conventional shoe boxes do not offer immediate visibility, it is more likely that a shoe shop employee cannot find a wrong pair of shoes stored in a box, which is often the case. This inconvenience does not simply aggravate the labor of the employee. In a worst case scenario, a customer will also end up finding her having purchased a wrong pair of shoes when reopening the shoe box at home. Even after a successful purchase of shoes, a customer may find another problem with the conventional shoe box—a big volume of wastes. According to my research interview, people did not keep the shoe boxes at home. In most cases, shoe boxes were dumped in the garbage as they are, causing a big volume of wastes. In this inconvenience and inefficiency were found a huge design opportunity.
