DESIGN NAME: Floating Garden
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Hanging Flowerpots
INSPIRATION: One of my friends is living in a small but modern loft. She always been a big fan of plants but she didn't want to destroy her minimalist interior with ordinary flower pots. She asked me if I could think of an original solution. My goal was to design something which can completely integrate with any modern, minimalist space. Hanging from the ceiling with thin stainless steel strings, the vases seem to be floating in the air, and multiple pots hanging together give the feeling of a small floating green island.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: These Hanging Flower Pots are floating in the air and thus emphasize space and dimensions in the room because of the 3D effect. It’s a completely new way to decorate your home with living plants and flowers, in a very unique and elegant way. These Hanging Flower Pots are not only functional but also an aesthetic contemporary item of your home. The perfect balance is provided by the combination of the feminine shapes and masculine materials in one minimalistic design. The Floating Garden fits perfectly into any modern interior and it also fulfils nowadays food-lovers' dreams, to grow their own herbs in their modern kitchen in a very decorative way.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The Floating Garden functioning exactly the same way as any ordinary flower pot. You can plant any kind of living plant in it. Thanks to its evaporating system your plants can always have some extra water in stock and incase of over-watering, the unnecessary water will disappear via the evaporating pipe. There are 2 ways to suspend your hanging vases; 1; You can just simply hang it on anywhere or on anything, thanks to the little detachable hook at the end of the metal string. 2; or you can directly screw it on to the ceiling with a detachable double ending screw at the end of the steel string. (both endings are included)
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in April 2011 in Barcelona and finished in August 2011. It has been exhibited in Paris, Maison&Objet in Sept 2012.
