PRIMARY FUNCTION: Archery Muscle Trainer
INSPIRATION: Research showed that archery users had issues traveling or finding time to get to the shooting range making it hard to consistently train. Because 'dryfiring'; a bow can possibly break the limbs, it was decided to pursue a durable and realistic imitation of an actual recurve bow.
The nautilus shape was chosen to imitate the draw weight resistance that occurs when pulling back an actual bow. As you draw further back the resistance increases due to the variation in concentric forces.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The brief was to create a consumer product around the sport of olympic archery. Research showed current trainers are made with resistance bands losing tension and inaccurately imitating the physics or weight of an actual bow. This trainer can be attached to any customized handle with the universal limb attachment system. It can be used by all ages, injuries or physique variations with the 20-60lb draw weight adjustment.The use of a torsion spring and suppressor provide indoor safety.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This object is operated through human interaction based around the sport of archery and their custom bow. The user attaches the trainer to their own bow using the universal limb attachment system found on all bows. Then the user adjusts the draw length and weight to their preferred settings to best imitate the bow used at the range. A torsion spring provides the resistance needed to strengthen muscles while a suppressor provides safety and ability to train indoors.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Discovering the nautilus shape and incorporate a small amount of biomimicry to duplicate the physics of an actual bow was a large break through.
Investigating torsion springs and suppressors was a new field to me that became very interesting
