| DESIGN NAME: As1 PRIMARY FUNCTION: Shuttlecock INSPIRATION: This was a semester long project in which each student was told to create a consumer grade product for their assigned sport UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This is a training shuttlecock used for the sport of badminton. What sets this shuttle apart from existing shuttles is its adjustability. The user can change the size of the tail feathers, which in turn changes the flight and speed of the shuttlecock. Allowing players to focus on different aspects of their game. Either set it to fast mode to work on their back court and highten their reflexes. Or slow mode to work on their short court game. The medium setting being the standard shuttle size for regular play. Existing feathered shuttlecocks fly great but are often destroyed after several points. Rendering them useless. This shuttle is made from strong and light Rip Stop Nylon. Allowing each shuttle to have a longer life span, without sacrificing playability. The color of this shuttle makes it really stand out, making it easier to see during play. Perfect for beginners and professionals. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This shuttle is adjusted by twisting the nose piece clockwise or counter clockwise. Once the nose is turned, it pulls the threaded adjustment screw in. Fanning the flexible frame and ripstop in. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project started in September of 2012 and finished in May of 2012, and was a school project at California College of the Arts. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: - SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: - TAGS: adjustable, shuttlecock, new, design, rip stop nylon, California college of the arts RESEARCH ABSTRACT: I interviewed several Badminton players, ranging from beginners to professionals. And with their knowledge and my own observations I decided to focus on a shuttlecock. I performed a large amount of flight testing and created over 50 sketch models, all of which led me to my final design.
