| DESIGN NAME: Suivez le guide PRIMARY FUNCTION: Flexible office INSPIRATION: All over the world designers talk about the new way of working, living, eating... People are searching for multi-use in every part of their life. After hearing the demand of the client, we didn't want to design dull desks, sturdy couches etc. We wanted to create something flexible. Users need to decide by themselves if they want a big meetingroom or a small intimate place for themselves. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This concept was designed for a design competition organized by the province of West Flanders.The assignment was to fill up a large empty space which is in the middle of several offices, with furniture where the users could gather. Suivez le guide is a series of 7 volumes of plywood in which allows the user to practice another activity. They can easily change the location of each box according the function they need. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Each users handles the box he wants to use at the moment. If he wants to have a small meeting he can go get the meeting box. If he wants a time for his one, he can go inside the rest-box which is completely left dark inside. We designed 7 boxes : 1 box where users have their mail boxes.1 box where people can rest in a enclosed space, 2 boxes for deskwork, alone or with two.2 meetingboxes : a big box for 6 and a smaller one. The last one is for relaxation and fun where you can play golf or darts. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Construction started in begin April 2012 and ended the same month. It is designed for the province of West Flanders Belgium who's renting small offices to starting companies in Roeselare. FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Interior Space and Exhibition Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The boxes are made out of varnished plywood with felt on the interior that works as an acoustic layer. The rolling system is based on the archive system many firms use for stacking their big paper archive. It is an easy en space-friendly solution. Users can put the boxes away when they don't need it. Like this these 'boxes' don't take a lot of space. Some boxes are provided with a LED light on a battery. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: We've got 7 boxes, each with a different dimension but always the same hight, 2m10 and the same width 3m. The depth varies from 1m50 to 0,6m. They are mounted on a steel rail that is 13 meters long. TAGS: Mobile,offices,desig RESEARCH ABSTRACT: - CHALLENGE: The hardest part was to compete with existing furniture concepts, that were presented by other companies. We had to convince the client to dare to use something new and dare to break with conventions. NAME: Five AM PROFILE: Design atelier Five AM was established in 2011 by interior designers Mathieu Bellens and Olivier Caluwier. Creating interiors and exhibition spaces for semi-public organisations and private companies, the Five AM portfolio also extends to product design. The studio’s aim is to generate a moment of astonishment in the process of realising an inspiring result. With simplicity as a starting point, each design needs to interact with the user and build up naturally until the story is complete. |
