RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Objectives.
1. Identifying product opportunities where we could make an improvement.
2. A fresh perspective towards our product category, taking into consideration current and future trends. How can we design something that will help solve problems by enhancing comfort?
3. Once the suitable product opportunity and concept had been identified and constructed, we researched similar products on the market, considering design, aesthetics and functionality, whilst ensuring practicality.
4. To validate and refine our product concept, we have used focus groups, online surveys, votes and social media. eg, We have initiated a voting process on our website.
Methodology.
Marketing research and lean startup methodology to validate product concept.
Data collection.
a. Our team have conducted questionnaires with our focus groups consisting of a demographic age group of males and females between the ages of 18-25.
b. Communication. emails, conversations with friends, family and associates for critique, feedback and suggestions.
c. Social media platforms. Facebook, YouTube, we encourage, validate and measure interest in our product by regularly monitoring response and interaction eg. likes, shares, comments, re-posts.
d. Call-to-action techniques. We encourage our customers to engage by way of online voting for our products.
CHALLENGE: The challenge was to be able to come up with unique products that are innovative and within our scope of vision. Since we are developing a product for commercial success, we had to make sure the uChair design, material selection and cost of production fit within our target cost range at under US 200 dollars whilst ensuring uChair remains a good quality product.
