DESIGN NAME: Duncan Shotton Design Studio
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Product & Packaging Design
INSPIRATION: I've always wanted to work for myself, to produce my own designs and to collaborate with companies directly. It was difficult to resist staying at my good, stable job at Kinneir Dufort design consultancy in Bristol, UK, but in 2012 I moved to Japan to be with my girlfriend. I knew it wouldn't be easy to get an in-house design job, since my japanese language skills were very basic, which inspired me to just 'go for it' and set up my own studio in Tokyo.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: In short, everything I create, be it for a client, a collaborating partner or a private individual, is designed with the main focus on making people smile.
I deliver products and solutions a little out of the ordinary, that engage people emotionally, promote happiness and ensure people love what they are
doing, wherever they are and whoever they're there with.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: -
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Set up studio in August 2012

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: My main tools are a laptop, a notebook, and a scalpel.
My ideas go in the notebook, the good ones get first get prototyped in paper & card, then I used 2D and 3D software, and further prototyping for the rest of the design process.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: As you can imagine in the compact metropolis that is Tokyo, my studio is very small. Most of my work is done on a desktop that's maybe 1m x 0.5m
