DESIGN NAME: Cortina
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Kettle
INSPIRATION: convergence, circle, cycle of water
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: "There is no beginning, and no end. Water cycles."
I gave form to the cycle of water as circle by converging the spout and handle of kettle.
Watched from the front, it is circular, but watched from the side, we can see that it is distorted.
I suggest the concept of not literal convergence, but design convergence as distorted form.
I selected the material of kettle whose heat is not conducted up to the handle. To use environment-friendly one, I avoided rubber.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Because of circular form of the handle, the use of water becomes different depending on the angle water is poured on.
The method of using it is the same as that of common kettles.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The Project started in February 2011 in Korea and finished in Octorber 2011 in Korea, and was exhibited in Seoul Design Festival in November 2011.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: In the form of existing kettles, spout and handle parts are distinctly separated.
Escaping from such a typical concept, I suggest a new form with the concept of convergence.
CHALLENGE: By excluding rubber generating environmental hormone, I approach it with the concept of environment-friendly design.
Finally, I suggest not the literal concept of convergence, but a new form of kettle with the concept of design convergence.
