DESIGN NAME: Landscape in Bustling City
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Commercial
INSPIRATION: Interior design always works within boundaries and has been hidden in bustling city landscape. Because of these boundaries, the connections between internal spaces, people and the city landscape have been segregated apart. In this project, the designer wanted to put emphasis on such connections and therefore used point-to-point method to define internal landscape and to re-create linkages to connect internal design, people and city landscape back together.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The internal landscape goes with spatial arrangement froming two sides from the platform and partition, along to and connected as a whole at the end side. The designer used wooden materials and light wood color, contrast to the tall and compact city landscape. Altogether, the internal landscape, wooden materials and natural light create a natural and comfortable working environment, and to expose the connections into the bustling city.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The work area is open-planned and located close to the windows. Natural light streams in through the windows making the room bright and warm, while people enjoy the environment and produce creative designs. Glass partitions clearly divide the space of conference room but still keep the plan open. Material room is next to the conference room, with a sliding door in between. When the door is open, the sliding door is just fit for the book cabinet at the corner. A few leisure areas, some with sofas and coffee tables, are located at corners of the studio, for entertaining guests and even enjoying a little leisure moment besides intense work tasks.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project is located in Hong Kong and started from May 2011 to July 2011.
