RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Being a dog owner myself I found all dog kennels on the market inadequate for the hot climate in South Africa.
Problem 1 - Insulation - Solution - double wall design
Problem 2 - Transportability - Solution - easy assembly from parts
Problem 3 - Cleaning - Solution - easy removable roof for ease of access for the top instead of the entrance
At the same time the possibility of modifying the bottom part for underfloor heating for future export to colder climates was incorporated
Rotamoulding was chosen for manufacture to reduce tooling costs and produce easy cleanable parts in HDPE, the kennel also had to be 100% recyclable
CHALLENGE: Finding the correct proportions of the unit to create a pleasant space for the animal and giving it the feeling of safety. Designing the parts for ease of assembly and mouldability. Ensuring that the disassembled parts pack into a compact unit for shipping
