DESIGN NAME: Xiangkai Weifang Shangcheng Longyue
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Clubhouse
INSPIRATION: The forest is a sanctuary for the soul in the city. Drawing inspiration from the forest, this design seeks to return to nature. Using deconstructive elements and recombining components, natural light is introduced to simulate an ecological cycle, creating a transparent and natural "outdoor" feel. Through space, the aim is to plant a forest within the city, providing a "oxygen" station for the soul, where even within the confines of space, one can still feel the infinite tenderness and nurturing of nature.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Located in western Shandong Peninsula, Weifang is a national ecological garden city, integrating architecture with nature. The urban construction aims for green ecological buildings, merging "city within the forest, forest within the city." Xiangkai Shangcheng Longyue Clubhouse design embodies this concept by planting a forest beneath, creating vibrant life. Interaction with nature fosters expectations for future living.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The natural hues of raw wood set the tone for the space, imbuing every corner with a natural ambiance. As one's gaze crosses the entrance of the building, wood and cement intertwine, evoking the image of tree roots piercing through the cold, hard steel and concrete, growing wild. Partition walls in the front and rear areas adopt landscaping techniques such as "transparent views" and "concave-convex" structures, enhancing the sense of spatial breathing and transparency. The texture of tree rings, warm hues, and swaying tree shadows continue endlessly within the space.
Upon entering the reception center, the space "opens up suddenly." Ingeniously designed skylights in the ceiling and the clever use of concave-convex structures simulate natural sunlight, creating a transparent, natural "outdoor" feel. "Trees" stand tall on both sides, casting a shade over the space.
The space embraces the "forest," nourishing both body and soul. Within this space, which embodies the imagination of Weifang's people for future living, the collision of different materials highlights contemporary humanistic aesthetics, while the use of "greenery" continues the language of life.
The water bar area, TIME BOX, symbolizes the heart of the city. Planting the seeds of a forest in the heart of the city, life sprouts. Through the iterations of time, the light pouring in from the skylight in the dome accelerates photosynthesis, continuously releasing oxygen, spreading it outwards from the center. Small lives nourished by sunlight and rain grow into towering trees, even forming a lush greenery. Under the shade of the greenery, it feels like being in the tranquility of a rainforest, where the mind relaxes, accepting the comforting power of nature, and communication becomes more comfortable and smooth.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project is located north of Wolong West Street and west of Lichang North Road in Weifang City, Shandong Province, China. It was completed in August 2023.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The design is based on contemporary aesthetics, blending nature and humanity into the space by incorporating curves, expressing materials, and shaping the space's essence with cultural elements.
Directly sourced from nature, wood naturally embodies warmth and harmony. The space predominantly features wood, complemented by a small amount of metal and marble. Building upon this, the interior establishes a natural ecosystem concept through an "oxygen station," incorporating elements such as moss, greenery, tree trunks, and branches to simulate a complete ecological cycle. This creates a natural life system, conveying the contemporary notion of symbiosis between humanity and nature.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: As the city develops and concrete structures expand, natural ecosystems gradually retreat to the outskirts. The city and nature become opposing forces that are difficult to reconcile. This project aims to express the city's need for nature through design, blurring the boundaries between architecture and nature, and creating an ideal lifestyle where the city and nature coexist harmoniously.
CHALLENGE: In terms of structural design, this project draws inspiration from traditional garden design techniques such as frame structures and transparent views. To some extent, it aligns with the Eastern concept of "harmony between heaven and humanity," embodying the inheritance and innovation of Chinese architectural design principles. Under this structural framework, culture and nature merge, art and functionality overlap, scenes interact with one another, and people and light interact dynamically. The layout and design of the space extend beyond ecological urban living, creating a variety of unique living scenarios and providing a more perfect reference for future lifestyles.
