DESIGN NAME: Morfius
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Modular Furniture
INSPIRATION: The form and material of this design are inspired by the simplicity of Japanese furniture and the functionality or ease of use is inspired by CROCS footwear and LEGO classic. The origin of the name comes from the combination of More and Fuse, which that addresses you can fuse more function and form out of the original package. It brings out a gamification experience for the customer to play with his sense of creativity and renovation to take more out of the product.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Morfius is based on one modular structure and three different modular pillows that can vary in color. The idea is to reshape the modular perspective with true sustainability behavior, It focuses not only on the functionality but on the aesthetics. The structure can be expanded in many different ways from one-person seat to an L-shape sofa, regular sofa, bed, long linear sofa, etc. When it comes to aesthetics you can consider rearranging pillows and mixing and matching between triangle, square, and diamond-shaped ones.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Because of the dotted hole structure, the reshaping and rearranging process is so easy. Each structure is well matched with simple fixtures that bound each other from the bottom base and the pillows also are easily removable through the simple push & pull method working with detachable pins and are well fixed when they are put in place. The bottom box is part of the design and also a storage room for extra pillows and parts such as wooden armrests.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in January 2024 in Tehran.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The Morfius modular solution was based on a daily study of how a flexible environment and sustainable daily products can affect the quality of life. In simple words a flexible and sustainable object in daily use can be more effective and durable because of the variety of options and considering human needs, so the outcome was a modular solution that considered aesthetics and functionality altogether.
CHALLENGE: The main challenge was to find a flexible solution so it could bend in function and also change its shape to affect the human mood and use. The deepest technical challenge was to match the dotted holes and the pillow joints together so they wouldn't fail when combining different forms and to match all the parts with their dimensions.
