| DESIGN NAME: Calligraphy Master PRIMARY FUNCTION: Lounge Chair INSPIRATION: The design of this chair is inspired by Chinese calligraphy, which represents the cultural heritage of the Chinese nation and the rich oriental aesthetic characteristics. In China, calligraphy has a long history and is deeply loved by the people, maintaining a close relationship with the development of Chinese culture. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The design of the calligraphy chair is inspired by the flowing strokes of Chinese calligraphy, an art form that embodies the deep cultural heritage of China. By incorporating the graceful curves found in calligraphy, we have created a chair that captures the beauty of this ancient art. What sets this chair apart is the unique method of construction. Through the use of steam heating, we are able to shape the wood in a way that deviates from traditional woodworking techniques. This innovative process allows for the creation of distinct lines and curves, resulting in a chair that seamlessly combines nature and art. Furthermore, this design offers a level of personalization. With the possibility of customizing the chair to individual preferences, it becomes a truly one-of-a-kind piece. By blending practicality and artistic expression, this chair provides a unique aesthetic experience. It not only serves as a functional piece of furniture but also stands as a work of art. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This is a chaise longue with beautiful curves of calligraphy and the natural elasticity of wood, as a seat in the interior, the clever design and its special processing technology can bring you a comfortable experience. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Steam-bent solid wood is one of the key technologies for the production of calligraphy chairs. This technique involves the use of steam to soften the fibrous structure of the wood, making it flexible. Here are the key steps involved in this technique: First of all, choose the right solid wood material. Ensure that the surface of the wood is smooth, flat, and free of cracks and defects. Different types of wood have different fiber structures and elasticity. Next, cut the wood into the desired shape. Then, the wood is placed in a steam chamber with a steam generator. The wood is exposed to steam, gradually increasing its temperature and softening the fibrous structure. When the wood reaches the desired softness, it is quickly removed from the steam chamber and placed in the desired mold for fixation. This step needs to be performed quickly to prevent the wood from re-hardening during the cooling process. After the curved wood has cooled and dried, it is trimmed and its shape refined. The excess is removed, the surface of the wood is sanded, and a clear coat is applied to enhance its durability and visual appeal. By using the technique of steam-bending solid wood, it is possible to create a calligraphy chair with elegant and smooth lines. This key technology requires precise craftsmanship and an understanding of the properties of wood to ensure the quality and stability of the final product. CHALLENGE: Perhaps the most difficult part of this design exercise was how to perfectly translate the beauty of the lines of the art of calligraphy into the design of the wooden chairs. To achieve this, an in-depth study of the art of calligraphy and proficiency in wood processing and joining techniques are required. At the same time, it is also necessary to have creative thinking and design skills, and integrate the art of calligraphy with the structure of the chair to present a harmonious and unified beauty.
