| DESIGN NAME: Formation 01 PRIMARY FUNCTION: Bathroom Faucet INSPIRATION: Combining dynamic gesture with advanced engineering, Formation 01 takes a familiar object and reimagines it as a functional sculpture in Kohler's dynamic Neolast composite material. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The product’s striking angles and industrial bold Haptic Orange color defy the traditional expectations of a bathroom faucet. The Kohler x SR_A collaboration embraces Samuel’s avant-garde artistic approach while honoring Kohler’s 150-year legacy of innovation and craftsmanship in the development of a new design language for water solutions. This new limited-edition faucet challenges how we engage daily with the form and function of an everyday object by pushing the boundaries of materials, forms, and colors. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: - PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project was initiated in late 2022 with collaboration between Kohler and SR_A's studios in the US and UK, respectively. The project launched at Design:Miami in 2023. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: To realize Samuel Ross’ creative vision, Kohler invited him to explore an advanced new composite material that offers boundless form, unexpected texture, and rich, saturated colors. A 3D-printed internal waterway was developed to accomplish the unique sheet flow effect. An embossed cast iron escutcheon plate celebrates our collaboration in an homage to Kohler’s history of material innovation.
