DESIGN NAME: The Aesthetics of Waiting
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Fashion
INSPIRATION: The inspiration behind "The Aesthetics of Waiting" stems from personal growth amidst separation and longing. Departing from home, the designer faced loneliness and doubt, yet found solace in creativity. Longing for family nurtured passion, transforming negativity into vibrancy. The collection symbolizes this journey, using silk organza and sky motifs to illustrate evolution and anticipation.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: "The Aesthetics of Waiting" employs unique techniques and properties, such as integrating remnants from past projects for personal narrative depth. Shiny extra-fine silk organza symbolizes growth, akin to foam accumulation, portraying transformation. Stylish representations of the blue sky evoke familial connection, while juxtaposing transparent fabrics with bold hues captures anticipation and evolution in the designer's craft.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: By intertwining the concepts of recycling and revisiting my memories and emotions, each element in the collection holds profound significance, rendering it inherently sustainable. Drawing from techniques honed during my time in New York, the collection serves as a tangible representation of my personal journey, akin to a diary. While nostalgia often evokes a delicate, sheer ambiance, I purposefully infused bold accents laden with meaning to imbue my garments with confidence. Wearers will delight in the intricately sewn complexity of emotions, at times juxtaposing, meticulously woven into the fabric of the garments.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in December 2023 in New York while revisiting the memories and finished in Febuary 2024 in New York.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: By recycling the remnants from past projects and revisiting the path I have gone through, I aim to depict the metamorphosis I've undergone. Shiny extra-fine silk organza symbolizes growth, with a special foam accumulation technique that I've devised, portraying transformation. Stylish representations of the blue sky evoke familial connection, while juxtaposing transparent fabrics with bold hues captures anticipation and evolution in the designer's craft.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: I meticulously shaped the bubbles on the organza, freely basting their form before scrunching the stitches along the baste lines to create them. Afterward, I meticulously clean-finished each bubble, embellishing them with meaningful embroideries before hand-stitching them onto the garments. Inside, I incorporated boning structures to paradoxically symbolize the restraints I've endured and the growth I've experienced simultaneously. I aimed for the foams to appear as though they were breaking through the structured garments, conveying a powerful visual metaphor.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: This journey was a deeply personal exploration, involving a meticulous process of reconnecting with my emotions, seeking out visual inspirations, and implementing techniques with both environmental and emotional resonance for the audience. Opting for the foam concept in structured garments, I immersed myself in the study of foam's organic irregularities in paint-infused liquid, ensuring its seamless translation into wearable art to effectively convey my message. Through experimentation, including scrunching fabrics with baste lines, overlapping handmade fabric foams, painting, and exploring silhouettes enhanced by bonings, I achieved a cohesive visual narrative. Additionally, the full recycling of remnants from past projects not only minimized waste but also fostered a profound emotional connection to my fashion journey's evolution.
CHALLENGE: The most challenging aspect of creating this collection was selecting the right remnants, techniques, and colors to accurately portray my emotions and metamorphosis. I aimed to strike a balance between a nostalgic, ethereal atmosphere and bold fabrics and colors to effectively convey my feelings. Achieving seamless balance in fabric and technique placement proved to be the most difficult task.
