| DESIGN NAME: Love Letters PRIMARY FUNCTION: Cabinet INSPIRATION: The creation of the Love Letters cabinet was inspired by an artwork that resonated with the idea that emotions are what we all live for. The expression of love and emotions is the foundation of any relationship, allowing it to further develop and flourish. The cabinet emphasizes the significance of individuals and their responsibility for addressing challenges as they arise. The most important thing we can do as a society is to first and foremost change ourselves. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Love Letters cabinet is designed with a profound message: to spread love. By promoting this message, it not only serves as functional piece of furniture but goes beyond mere functionality to become a symbol of love, contributing to the ambiance and emotional resonance of the space we live in. The symbolic representation of love through a piece of furniture serves as a reminder that love can transcends boundaries in today's disharmonized world. It’s time for love. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The placement of Love Letters cabinet in the space catches our attention and invites us to open it, but mostly moves the individual's boundaries of seeing the cabinet merely as a piece of storage furniture in the space. The presence of Love Letters fills us with dreaminess, optimism, and positive feelings. The cabinet is designed for simple use. By pressing the metal triangle, the drawer opens. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The prototype of the cabinet was created in 2020 during the renovation of an old bourgeois villa in Ljubljana. The first pieces were placed as nightstands in the bedroom of the villa. Since then, new variations of Love Letters have been constantly created and placed in different spaces and locations. Love Letters received the BigSee Product Design Award in 2022 and were exhibited at Zagreb Design Week 2023 as a ZGDW2023 Award Finalist. FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Furniture Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The Love Letters cabinet is handmade by the local carpenters and metalworkers. It is shaped like an envelope and placed on a metal base. It is available in a variety of colours and materials: MDF, melamine mirror, metal, solid wood, brass. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 470 mm (W) x 350 mm (D) x 450 mm (H) TAGS: collectible design, cabinet, nightstand, meaningful design, aesthetic design, designer furniture, contemporary furniture, art and design, unique, limited edition RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Based on the artwork that has evoked emotions and thoughts, can a piece of furniture function as art and can it inspire emotions and imagination? The first examples of the cabinets were presented at the Furniture Fair, where I primarily observed people's reactions and received their feedback. The reactions were very diverse. The conclusion was that the world needs more of this type of furniture, which in addition to its functional value, also inspires and stimulates emotions. CHALLENGE: The Love Lettres represent the furniture of the future by creating intimate emotional stories for future generations through a piece of furniture, while evoking emotions and simultaneously encouraging individuals to radically shift their mindsets about consumerism to reduce individual consumption of materials and products.
