DESIGN NAME: CyCO
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multifunctional Mobile App
INSPIRATION: The experience of buying costumes for Halloween inspired us to come up with this design. The cost of the costume can be expensive and the quality can be disappointing. It is also hard for people to figure out if the size of their costume fits. Also, we noticed that most people throw away or do not wear the costume anymore after a single use. It can be wasteful and have the potential to negatively impact the environment seriously.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The design aims to help costume lovers handle unwanted costumes by providing them with cash transfers and benefits if we decide that we can accept the costume. Then the seller can browse our special social media page and see how others are wearing our costumes. If they like one of them they can rent the costume at a discounted price. Finally, they may take pictures of themselves wearing our costumes and post them on our social media platform to have a sense of community.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: For selling the product, the user will need to submit a selling request which includes uploading images and writing descriptions. The user can follow the instructions on how to deliver the item to us if we can accept the item. The ones who successfully traded in their costumes can choose whether to receive a cash transfer or CyCO Coins. Then the user can browse our social media page and rent the remade costume they like. And CyCO Coins can be used as coupons when renting our products.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in December 2023 in New York City and finished in February 2024 in New York City.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Our research methods include market research, surveys, interviews, and user testing. The research objective is to study the costume consumers' pain points and expectations. The methodology was a mixed method of quantitative and qualitative approaches. The result was that the costume consumers are looking for quality yet affordable costumes that have a touch of personal creativity.
CHALLENGE: Our research identified that recognizing how a costume looks on oneself is a major pain point. Therefore, we developed this virtual try-on function. The challenge was how to achieve such a result. Options were projecting the costume on one's body or having an augmented reality similar to Instagram's filters. Finally, we decided to provide an AR virtual try-on since not everyone has a projector at their home.
