PRIMARY FUNCTION: Gout Treatment Equipment
INSPIRATION: The number of gout sufferers is increasing, particularly among younger individuals. During gout attacks, the pain can range from unbearable to severely debilitating, affecting normal daily life and, in severe cases, resulting in disability. However, treating gout is a long and arduous process, with many patients unable to adhere due to the complexity of medical care and neglect of their condition, leading to recurrent gout attacks. Through our research, we have found that there is currently no product on the market specifically targeting gout treatment. Therefore, we are focusing on this demographic and committed to providing them with health and well-being solutions.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Dstone is a treatment solution for gout. This medical device uses lithotripsy to accelerate the dissolution of gout stones. It slowly crushes the stones with a shockwave emitter and is controlled through a supporting app. The app connects patients, doctors, and hospitals, aiming to provide patients with more intuitive health data and a convenient medical experience. At the same time, it also provides doctors with a platform to better understand the patient's treatment process.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The patients place their big toes near the water bladder inside the product's inner protrusion and adjusts the treatment intensity through the app for treatment. After the device treatment, the patient can receive feedback and predictions through the app. They can also use it to schedule their next medical appointment. Treatment data will be transmitted to the doctor to assist with their next diagnosis.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: During our field investigations and interviews, we found repetitive and time-consuming processes in hospital service process, prolonging patient waiting times. Some patients desire fewer follow-up visits and streamlined treatment. Some need visualization data for better understanding. Doctors seek to compare patient data before and after treatment and ensure treatment adherence, especially for severely affected patients, requiring follow-up visits.
CHALLENGE: In the product design process, there were questions about the treatment location and the method of fixation for treating gout. Through interviews with experts, we shifted our focus to the joints most affecting patients' lives and a more stable fixation method.
