DESIGN NAME: Foremost Legacy
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multifunctional Golf Ball Packaging
INSPIRATION: To celebrate Foremost's 30th anniversary, we have crafted this packaging with a special infusion of dynamic charm and practical putting functionality. It's not just a packaging design, but also a profound reflection of our brand's journey, injecting a fresh soul and vitality into the product.
The inner box features a pull-out function, allowing the effortless extraction of three golf balls. During the pulling process, the inner box showcases the striking motion of the golf balls and the dynamic features of the brand, delivering visual surprises and enjoyment to the users.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This packaging design distinguishes itself from traditional golf ball packaging by incorporating moiré printing technology to depict dynamic golf ball effects. Additionally, through the structural design of the packaging itself, we've achieved a unique functional transformation, enabling it to convert into a golf ball putting practice device. This innovative design not only enhances the visual appeal of the packaging but also provides added practical value, allowing users to enjoy more fabulous fun and convenience during use.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: After unboxing the package, you will find three inner packages. Each time you pull one out, it's like uncovering a scene from a golf course, immersing you in the dynamic and joyful golf atmosphere.
Once you have removed all the inner packages, please don't rush to discard the external package because it holds a surprise! Flip the external package upside down, gently press down on the transparent sheet, and instantly transform the packaging into a golf hole, presenting a perfect golf-putting practice platform! Now, you can indulge in the joy of putting practice anytime, anywhere, and enhance your golf skills at your convenience.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in January 2023 in Taiwan and finished in June 2023 in Taiwan

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Through moiré printing technology, we meticulously designed three dynamic frames: the dazzling motion of a rolling golf ball, the swing action, and the unique dynamic of the brand. The packaging ingeniously incorporates Pantone special colors and silver aluminum cardboard, presenting the unique color scheme of the brand's 30th anniversary. At the same time, combining the structure of the golf hole and the cutting design of the transparent partition, the packaging achieves both commemorative value and practical functionality.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The outer box : 150mm x 150mm x 50mm.
The inner box : 137mm x 45mm x 45mm.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Through surveys and user interviews, we found that traditional golf ball packaging lacked novelty and practicality, being quite similar across the board. Hence, in designing this packaging, we deliberately incorporated dynamic elements and putting practice features. We aim to enhance user engagement with the packaging by offering these additional design features, thus increasing the likelihood of repeated use. This approach reduces packaging waste and aligns with sustainable packaging principles.
CHALLENGE: In the process of integrating dynamic elements into the packaging design, we encountered several challenges. Due to the limited number of frames, we had to present various dynamic effects of golf balls within a confined space. This required continuous evaluation and experimentation to identify the design solutions that best highlight the sense of motion.
Another challenge was to transform the packaging into a functional putting practice device. We iteratively modified and tested the paper material, structure, and magnetic components to ensure that the box's slope, elasticity, and friction achieve optimal putting experience. This involved multiple rounds of testing and adjustments to achieve the desired usability outcome.
