DESIGN NAME: Aquapod Jacana
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Rechargeable Flowmeter Straw
INSPIRATION: People know that staying hydrated is crucial for
maintaining good health.You might know roughly how much
water you need everyday. But do you really know
the exact amount of water you had drunk yesterday?
Was it enough? Or too much? It’s hard to calculate
that during a busy daily life. Of course it’s even harder
to do so for whom you take care of everyday, like
your kids, and parents. Therefore We bring this product for solving the problem. And you can take care of your families better.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This is the World No.1 electric straw. Aquapod Jacana is a rechargeable electric straw which accumulates precisely and shows the amount of water you drink.It’s built with a flow sensor and a liquid sensor.
The liquid sensor can prevent miscalculating when users suck in some air when they finish drinking.The program only counts when the liquid sensor is activated with water or other kind of liquid. You can easily use it at home,in the office,or even in the hospital.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: First, press the reset button and hang it on a glass or a mug.
Then drink with the straw, you will see the amount of water you have drunk instantly. You can also switch to the countdown mode from a target amount you like. There are only few parts to clean, and no worries to wash it with water directly. You can switch unit between ml and oz. And when the indication of low battery shows up recharge with a 5V type-c USB wire. We used the least parts to design. So it’s
easy to disassemble, wash, and assemble up.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in April 2023 and finished in January 2024 in Taiwan.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: It’s built with a flow sensor and a liquid sensor.
The liquid sensor can prevent miscalculating when users suck in some air when they finish drinking. People usually will suck one or two more times when finishing drinking. And this causes miscalculation a lot. And it is also an unsolved problem of those smart bottles which contained the flowmeter function on the market. The program only counts when the liquid sensor is activated with water or other kind of liquid. If users suck the air through the straw, the flowmeter will not be counting due to the liquid sensor is not activated. So we can make sure that Aquapod Jacana is more accurate and reliable than other products on the market. And You can easily use it at home,in the office,or even in the hospital. As long as you have a mug, cup, or thermal bottle.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: There are a lot of smart bottles already exist in the market. But lot of them are bulky and expensive and with very little capacity. And what users need is not an another water bottle which they already had. Users need a flowmeter fits to lot of different type of water containers and shows the result instantly. So we design the rechargeable flowmeter straw for people who need to track the consumption of water in their daily life. This product gives users the insight of how we getting hydrated during a day. No matter you are an adult, elder, teenager, athlete, child. We all need to concern more about accurately hydrating that has huge impact to our healthy daily performance. And the most important unsolved problem of existing competitive products is the miscalculating. Therefore we use an liquid sensor match with a hall sensor which can reduce the rate of miscalculation. And after dozens times of experiments we found the perfect solution with all these elements such as sensors, magnets, MCU, and even straw diameter.
CHALLENGE: The biggest challenge of the product is to reasonably design or arrange the structure of product with the ergonomic design and the bionic design. It relates to two pieces of PCB that have different functions. And it's an all new product. There's no similar competitor such as a flowmeter straw. So we create the product from 0 to 1 by scratch.
