DESIGN NAME: Boyang
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Coffee and Side Table
INSPIRATION: The experimentation with materials inspired the Alcheme Collection, which this piece is a part of. The Boyang coffee table borrowed its name from Wei Boyang, a Chinese alchemist from the 1st century BC. The piece alludes to the alchemy in its mix of materials: the solid stone base, a handmade glass top that evokes the movement of the water, and a delicate metal support.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Made of stone, glass, and metal, this coffee table results from the Alcheme Collection by Patricia Anastassiadis for Artefacto which took inspiration from experimentation with different materials and formats. The aim was to design a piece with an identity capable of capturing the eye while ensuring lightness and precision. The visual effect is striking and surprising as the glass on top seems to evoke the movement of the water and the stone seems to be held up by the delicate metal support.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The Boyang is a coffee and side table designed for contemporary living rooms. They merge different materials and serve different décor styles, showcasing a timeless appeal. The Boyang Table catches the eye for the contrast between the stone and the glass - an interesting dynamic with hardness and lightness. It’s a piece that dialogues with the combination of different materials and structures. The glass on the top is especially fluid and evokes the water movement in a very poetic way.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in April 2022 in São Paulo, Brazil, and finished in March 2023 with the launch of the Alcheme Collection in DW, São Paulo Design Week

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The table is composed of a solid stone base, obtained from a different casting technique, that supports a handmade glass top. This unusual combination marks the contrast between the hardness of the stone and the lightness of the glass. A delicate metal support completes the composition, ensuring balance to the table.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The table is composed of a hand-made glass top, stone, and metal. It is part of our philosophy for our collections to combine the industry with manufacturers. The artisanal hand-made glass, with its special fluid effect, finishes, celebrates that union and the beauty that can come of it. The harmony between the materials was also one of our goals: we had to balance the resistance of each one in order to blend in one perfect piece.
CHALLENGE: Part of the challenge of the making of this piece was to incorporate the artisanal and hand-made glass with the industry process of the high-end brand, Artefacto. We have combined the industry with manufacturers before, and the result is always positive. It was also a challenge combining glass, stone and metal. We balanced the resistance and the delicacy of different materials to reach the ideal stability and the perfect fit.
