DESIGN NAME: Ave Natur
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Oat Based Dairy Products
INSPIRATION: What inspired Ave-Natur was creating a brand that not only tastes good but also has a positive impact on humans and nature. A product which is healthy to consume and is environmentally conscious. The Ave-Natur products bring the healthy, natural taste of Finland to the rest of the world. Misteli creative agency was inspired by this mission to create a beautiful, powerful visual identity to match this forward-thinking brand. The Ave-Natur product catalogue includes oats for whipping, cooking, barista, chocolate flavoured oat-drink as well as smoothies in various flavours.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: For the packaging design, Misteli creative agency focused on a clean, simple, structured design. Using big colorful blocks and Scandinavian patterns to distinguish Ave-Natur from other brands and communicate the Finnish roots. The brand is positioned as an oat-based dairy product that uncovers and brings the taste of Finland to the world. The oat-based drink is thus a way to share Finland's values, nature, people, and approach to life with the world. Each time customers discover a new product and taste, another part of the Finnish lifestyle is revealed.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: What sets Ave-Natur apart is their approach based on our Finnish heritage. That includes their love of nature and desire for innovation. Their production runs on renewable sources, has a low carbon footprint, and involves a minimal amount of water usage. Their packaging is eco-friendly and the natural resources (oats) are produced using nature-friendly farming methods. They rely on decades of experience and the needs of their customers, to constantly improve existing products and create new ones.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project began in 2021 with the design of the Ave-Natur packaging. Currently, the products are being launched in stores and being adopted in cafes throughout Asia, particularly in Japan.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: When looking at materials for the packaging Ave-Natur decide to work with Tetra Pak. Tetra Pak packages have a lower environmental impact than equivalent glass and plastic packaging. It is also recyclable. Their packages are certified by FSC™, which guarantees responsible forest management. The average Tetra Pak® carton is made from 70% paperboard, a renewable material from responsibly managed forests. They also offer plant-based caps made from sugarcane, further increasing the amount of renewable materials.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: To create the packaging Misteli creative agency conducted in-depth research into the Ave-Natur brand itself, as well as competitors and the target audience. This started with a strong strategy that established the core identity of Ave-Natur as a taste of Finland. Competitor and market research was conducted to establish the designs and trends within the plant-based milk industry. Lastly, Ave-Natur is initially focused on launching in the Asian market. Research was accordingly conducted to understand the lifestyle and purchasing habits of the target audiences. This ensured that the packaging and branding was created specifically for the target audience.
CHALLENGE: One of the key challenges of this design was creating packaging which clearly communicates the brand identity (Finnish oat-based dairy), connects to the target audience, and communicates all the product specificities (ingredients, nutritional value, etc). From a legal perspective the product specification requirements per country or region can also differ. This made it challenging to create a design which meets all of the requirements.
