| DESIGN NAME: Golf PRIMARY FUNCTION: Folding Chair INSPIRATION: The traditional image of a bench resulting from the use of a segment of a tree trunk served as inspiration for the option of using rectangular and cylindrical section elements to compose this Design through wich, is intended to reach a relationship between its shapes and the human ergonomy. All hinge and fittings systems and elements are made with the same wood, giving the piece a more artisanal character. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This design, try to achieve a relationship between the rectangular and the cylindrical elements, the latter having a special ergonomic relationship with the human body. The folding bench and chair are made of natural wood, which guarantees great mechanical resistance. All hinge and fittings systems are made with the same wood, giving the piece a more artisanal character. The pieces are foldable, allowing it to be stored in a smaller space. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The mobility dimension, and the physical characteristics of this bench and chair allows easier manual transport while allowing it a multifunctionality of uses.It should be noted that the cylindrical elements allow for an easier manual transport of both the bench and the chair, and that the pieces are foldable, allowing it to be stored in a smaller space. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The Golf bench and the chair, which result from the introduction of a back element, have as their main characteristic, their constructive aspect and the fact that once dismantled they become reduced respectively to an easy-to-transport parallelepiped measuring 12x36x62cm (bench) and 12x36x76cm (chair). From a construction point of view, it is used exclusively wood, for all articulating and fixing elements of the rectangular section pieces (95x17cm) with the cylindrical parts with a diameter of 35cm. Fixing is achieved using Sucupira wood dowels (more resistant) with a diameter of 10mm. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Bench with the dimensions of 12x36x62cm while folded, with a heigh of 45cm when opened. Chair with the dimensions of 12x36x76cm while folded, with a heigh of 80cm when opened TAGS: Bench, Wood, Chair, Seat, Folding RESEARCH ABSTRACT: It was necessary to find a type of wood able to connect the different peices of the design, granting it stability and rigidity once in the open position, paramount for its confortability, together with the challenge of designing mechanisms between the different parts of the design, assuring their longevity.It is used exclusively wood, even for all articulating and fixing elements. connections are achieved using Sucupira wood dowels for its resistance with a diameter of 10mm. Since 2003 served as Cathedratic Professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Lisbon, and as Chairman of the Board of Directors till 2008. Gave several lectures on the themes of Design and Architecture in Portugal and abroad. |
