DESIGN NAME: Helpmet
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Heat Stroke Prevention Helmet
INSPIRATION: While the demand for human construction continues to grow, the intensity and frequency of heatwaves are increasing year after year, and we need to consider the risks and rights of the vulnerable group of construction workers. Heat stroke is not easy to recognise because of the similarity of symptoms to many common diseases, but the consequences of its onset are extremely serious. We need real-time monitoring and timely warnings before severe heat stroke causes irreversible damage.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Helpmet helps avoid heat stroke by monitoring and alerting workers who are suffering from the hot weather and intense labour to take a break at the moment.
Through the sound, vibration, light source to remind the mildly ill workers to rest on time, and through the client‘s guidance content to workers popularise the correct and efficient way to avoid heatstroke.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: After receiving the helmet, users pair it with their cell phone app to activate it. This links the app to the helmet, facilitating access to measurement data, staff sign information, and location. The helmet monitors vital signs, emitting sound and vibration for breaks if abnormalities occur. In critical situations, an alarm light activates, notifying the manager for timely action.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in August 2023 in Shanghai and finished in November 2023, and won the IDA Gold Award in January 2024.

CHALLENGE: We need to ensure the structural strength of the helmet itself while adding the sensor module. Balance the control of the total weight of the product, cost control, cost increase caused by the popularity of the product, the rate of loss.
