DESIGN NAME: Mions
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Cup Family
INSPIRATION: The project tries to give the user a new user experience and a different connection through the senses.
Design is a way of relating to the context and the various ways of living it, which is why Almagre designs to rethink everyday objects with a new conception, where codes and desires are renewed.
He uses design as a tool to enhance the techniques and craft of clay, creating new stereotypes.
is.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The design of the Mions line arises from playful proposals with new functional expressions. Rework the traditional use of cups by formally revising the handles.
Fittings, intersections, materials, tactile sensations, textures, are some of the reasons that allowed this family to be designed.
The family is a set of intersections of two perpendicular cylindrical pieces, one is the bowl and the other replaces the usual handle, adding a thermal insulator (cork) in the low relief.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The way of grasping the object is a natural act of grasping any drinking bowl, the idea is to respect the primary act of holding something.
The insulators are points of attention (accents) to grip the mug and not have direct contact with the ceramic and the hot liquid.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project begins in 2020 during the Covid 19 Pandemic.
It achieved the seal of Cordoba design in 2021 and then the seal of good Argentine design in the 11th edition of 2022. Both are distinctions from Argentina.
They were exhibited at the Córdoba design festival in 2021 and in the 11th exhibition of the Argentine good design seal in 2022 at the CCK (Kirchner Cultural Center), also participating in the catalog of said edition.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The Mions family is materialized from an industrial process by casting molds, starting from the concept to production (model, die-casting, casting, enamels, baking and insulation). Morphologically, they are more complex than the pieces in revolution (pottery) as they have intersections between the components that generate sharp radii and edges, making it difficult to remove the mold. For this reason, three plaster tasels were designed, managing to enhance the desired formal purity

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Córdoba (Argentina) is an expanding gastronomic hub, which is why it is a favorable context for the innovation of culinary pieces.
A field investigation was carried out to reveal new trends (signature coffee, organic wines), surveys and interviews were carried out with potential clients and amateur users.
Background and trends are analyzed according to strategies proposed in VIP (vision in product design). The results showed a trend of change in the usual stereotypes of gastronomic objects.
CHALLENGE: This family was born in a pandemic and the context made it difficult for us to access materials and productive possibilities in a timely manner, this motivates us to formulate our own stoneware clay, we work at the same time creating high temperature equipment and ovens that were built in our workshop , since potential clients demanded more production, quality and greater resistance. Jumping from the domestic to the gastronomic space was perhaps our biggest challenge during the design process.
