DESIGN NAME: Countdown

INSPIRATION: The artwork “Countdown” represents my transformation, emotions, and feelings prompted by the changes in the course of life caused by the global pandemic and present a reaction to the current global events in the world, as well as war crimes. Undoubtedly that leaves a mark on people's everyday lives, and of course, it is inevitably reflected in my works. At the same time, it re-examines its regeneration process from the resulting situation.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The work was created through research, experimentation and a combination of photography (photomontage), print and application of matches. The matches are placed in the way the prisoners used to mark the days on the walls of the prison cells as a countdown of the days until freedom. This raises the question: when the new ages, the new cycle of transformation, of a more humane way of life, of renewal will come?

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The artwork “Countdown” represents my transformation, emotions, and feelings prompted by the changes in the course of life caused by the global pandemic as well as a reaction to current tendencies and global developments in the world, which undoubtedly leave a mark on people’s everyday lives. The work was created through research, experimentation and a combination of photography (photomontage), print and application of matches. It represents a visual manifestation of fear, hopeless situation and limited freedom as a barrier to communicating with the world. The matches are placed in the way the prisoners used to mark the days on the walls of the prison cells as a countdown of the days until freedom. And the word “FREE” written with burned matches is placed on top of the photograph. Touching this intimacy and interconnectedness brings us to an empathetic and human level of better understanding of ourselves and our communities.
This raises the question: when will the new age, the new cycle of transformation, of a more human way of life, of renewal come?

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The goal of the artwork is to encourage greater awareness of the things we forget to notice and the creation of a new perception of our surroundings. That urges stems from the constant search for knowledge of one’s own nature and the feeling of union with the universe. Regeneration as a topic is closely related to the genetics of each existing individual, but a large part of its processes also depend on the time and conditions in which that particular individual develops... These influences act on its renewal, its consequences and survival in the given physical form.
CHALLENGE: It took a lot of time for me to create and develop the idea behind it. It was a process of making lots of photographies, combining them. The hardest thing was also to find such a big matches which could fit the bid photography.
