| DESIGN NAME: Keep Wild PRIMARY FUNCTION: Ring INSPIRATION: The contrast between standardized processed faceted gemstones and natural wild raw stones mirrors the artist's own growth experiences. Children raised in institutionalized educational environments often lack the "wildness" of a free-spirited upbringing. Through this project, the artist hopes to encourage people to choose their life paths more freely, highlighting the beauty of individuality and authenticity through the comparison between carved gemstones and raw stones. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The artist highlights the unique beauty of raw stones by manually carving a portion of them into faceted gemstone shapes, creating a striking contrast with the preference for flawless, perfectly carved gems in the market. This process emphasizes the exceptional aesthetic qualities of the raw stones. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: - PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in April 2019 in China and finished in October 2019 in China. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Hand-carved stones, 3d printing SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 25*20*45 TAGS: craft, handmade, minerals, upcycle, sustainable, silver, minimalism RESEARCH ABSTRACT: - CHALLENGE: The most challenging aspect is finding the appropriate carving position on the original stone during the carving process. To avoid damaging other parts of the stone, the artist uses handheld carving tools to replicate the effect of machine cutting and grinding gemstones. NAME: LYJewellery PROFILE: Liu Yang is a jewelry designer from Xinjiang in China. The mineral treasures of her home region inspired Liu's interest in exploring the nature of mineral aggregates to broaden the opportunities for creating organic and geometric jewellery. In pursuit of a deeper understanding of minerals and gems, Liu completed her undergraduate degree in gemmology in Moscow before joining MA Design; Ceramics, Furniture, Jewellery at Central Saint Martins. |
