DESIGN NAME: Eternal Balance
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Bags
INSPIRATION: The Eternal balance collection is inspired by the fashion and glamorous film period from 1920s to 1930s. I wanted to create a collection that reflects the world's cultural heritage but is also very contemporary, sustainable and well-made. I looked for inspiration in fashion and film photographs of our Slovenian actress Ita Rina and other globally successful actresses like Katharine Hepburn, Greta Garbo and Rita Hayworth, which took me back to the era of film and fashion glamour.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Eternal Balance collection consists of three handbags in different colours. The bags are like intimate sculptures, marked by a soft fold that gives them a special sensuality, or by an exact form that gives them elegance and sublime austerity. Although they are inspired by the fashion and film era from the 1920s to the 1930s, they are timeless and eco-friendly. They are made from sustainable, innovative, and plant-based material made from cactus.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Bags can be worn all year round and for several seasons, as they are designed to have a timeless design. They are also environmentally friendly in this respect, as they can be combined with different styles and for different occasions. The materials used are very durable, so they can be worn for many years.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in May 2021 and finished in September 2021. The collection was exhibited at the Museum of Slovenian Film Actors in October 2021 and at the Kosovel Cultural Center in Sezana, Slovenia in January 2022. It was also presented at Zagreb Design week (Croatia) in September 2023.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: When I was developing the collection, I researched the film and fashion period between 1920 and 1930: looking at photographs of our Slovenian actress Ita Rina and other globally successful actresses like Katharine Hepburn, Greta Garbo and Rita Hayworth, visiting the Museum of Slovenian Film Actors and watching clips from films of that time. The aim of the research was to find the main points that represent the period and to translate them into contemporary bag design.
CHALLENGE: I wanted to bring the main characteristics of the film and fashion period of that time into the collection: glamour, beauty and femininity and translate that into a collection that would be suitable for the modern woman.
The actresses have left behind a rich cultural heritage of cinema and of the film climate in the world at that time, as well as an insight into the world of women as creators at that time. As a young designer and a woman, I can identify with them, as they are a great source of inspiration from that point of view as well.
