DESIGN NAME: Blanc
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential House
INSPIRATION: The classic colonial style was introduced by the client themselves, and our objective was to infuse it with a twist by incorporating minimal and contemporary elements. The primary focus of the design was to bring about a sense of luxury and elegance while maintaining a minimalist approach. The key highlight of the design was to ensure that the spaces remained bright, achieved through the strategic use of neutral tones. Our goal was to seamlessly bridge the past with the present, creating a harmonious blend of styles.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Blanc represents a fusion of contemporary colonial style with an open and ethereal aesthetic. It is a pure work of art that seamlessly integrates with neutral tones to offer a tranquil and positive ambiance. The Blanc concept not only embodies the minimalism of the space but also encapsulates luxury and elegance in its style.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The interior of the house was adorned with classic contemporary furniture, works of art, and murals that seamlessly blend into the spaces. Partitions were strategically employed to address the client's privacy concerns, earning subsequent appreciation. What renders this house unique is the infusion of color tones into the spaces and the incorporation of art and décor elements that serve to contrast the entire area, providing a contemporary yet colonial ambiance.
The public living area is noteworthy, as it was meticulously designed to emphasize privacy and showcase the intricate details of the chosen style. The decorative wall in the living room is adorned with a blend of artworks and details, epitomizing the contemporary colonial effect. RESEARCH ABSTRACT: During the design process, extensive research was conducted on incorporating details and style into spaces where climatic conditions posed a significant challenge. A thorough examination of various designs, scrutiny of material lists, and the selection of the most suitable materials for the prevailing climate constituted a crucial aspect of our research. Given that the concept revolved around a neutral theme, we aimed to minimize maintenance by opting for fabrics that are easily washable.
Furthermore, we envisioned creating spaces that seamlessly connect the interior with the exterior. This involved meticulous attention to details such as large window openings, window detailing, frame details, partition details, and ceiling details. Our objective was to achieve interiors that are both soft and intricately detailed.
CHALLENGE: The client expressed significant dissatisfaction with the initial planning and structure when they approached us, indicating that it did not meet their standards. They had specific requirements, particularly regarding privacy within the open-plan layout. Despite the open design, the client desired a flow of space with enhanced privacy. A paramount consideration was to infuse a unique and different ambiance into the interiors while meeting their privacy needs. Of utmost importance was the client's desire for a positive and lively atmosphere within the residence, centered around a classic colonial theme to add a touch of luxury and elegance.
Throughout the collaboration, the client actively participated in discussions and shared numerous ideas from their perspective. This valuable input greatly aided us in approaching the design in a distinctive manner. However, the undertaking presented considerable challenges, as we were concurrently pursuing our studies in architecture during this project. Managing time effectively and translating renders into reality proved to be more demanding than anticipated.
To overcome obstacles, extensive research was conducted on colonial architecture, focusing on its intricate details and how to seamlessly fuse styles. The most formidable challenge we faced was the absence of highly skilled labor in our local area. Nonetheless, our commitment to bringing something innovative to the project drove us to navigate these challenges with diligence and creativity.
