| DESIGN NAME: Rayn PRIMARY FUNCTION: Rain Collecting Sunshade INSPIRATION: Rayn's design is inspired by the daily life of urban residents and environmental protection concepts. We found that when people water their balcony plants, they need to fill a kettle with water at home and then take it to the balcony, which is a cumbersome process. Therefore, we designed a parasol that can collect rainwater, making watering convenient. Urban balconies have limited space, so we combined rainwater collectors with parasols. Environmental protection is also what people want. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Rayn is an umbrella for urban balconies or gardens. The collected rainwater can be used to water flowers and clean gardens. Users no longer rely on the water supply system at home. It is easy to operate, water-saving and environmentally friendly. Integrating the bucket into the parasol also solves the problem of limited balcony space in the city. Able to intelligently purify water. Rayn provides users with more convenience in their daily lives and helps achieve a sustainable lifestyle. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Rayn's user experience and human-computer interaction focus on simplicity and intuitiveness, as well as practicality and convenience. Users can easily open and close the sunshade through the knob, view and use the collected rainwater through the screen, and operate and monitor the smart water purifier. All operations can be done on a simple interface. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project will start in Cologne, Germany, in April 2023 and be completed in Cologne, Germany, in October 2023. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Rayn uses metal, wood and tarpaulin materials, which naturally match modern outdoor furniture. The materials are waterproofed to ensure the durability of the product. In addition, the 88L large-capacity PE barrel can store more rainwater, and the intelligent water purification device can effectively purify rainwater. We also designed an overflow protection device. When the water tank is full, water will pass through the umbrella tube. device is discharged to the outside. By designing a product that integrates sunshade, rainwater collection, and intelligent water purification, it provides users with a Environmentally friendly, practical and innovative solution. We discovered users' needs and problems through in-depth observation and understanding of urban life. CHALLENGE: During the design and research process of Rayn, the main challenge we faced was how to utilize the parasols in the limited balcony, and at the same time, we needed to make a more reasonable design for the layout of the balcony. In addition, a lot of effort has been put into the material and structural design of umbrella curtains to more effectively carry rainwater to ensure that it is more practical for rainwater collection.
