| DESIGN NAME: Cubiventure PRIMARY FUNCTION: Pet House INSPIRATION: Both outdoor living and the pet economy have been booming in recent years, which reflected a shift in lifestyle. Inspired by such a trend, Cubiventured was designed to be space-saving and multi-functional to reach a broader audience. The design was inspired by the expandable campervan which creates extra space when needed, with a furniture-making background, we came up with a structure similar to drawers finalizing its technical feasibility. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Cubiventure is an expandable pet house that can be used both indoors and outdoors. It takes the shape of a cube, with sliding rails inside, the capacity can be adjusted with a maximum doubled capacity, which makes it grow with our pets, and space-saving when they are young and small. It also has a convertible roof and door, with an easy expanding mechanism, when fully expanded, it becomes a campervan for pets when they are taken out for adventures. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: To expand the house, the user has to grab the top frame on the right side and lift the right side up off the ground, then pull the compartment like a drawer. To set up the rooftop tent, there are two steel rods each with one end connected to the corners of the canvas rooftop, and there are two inserts in the mainframe with holes in the center, insert the rods into the holes to set up the tent. To close or open the front canvas door, simply roll up or down, and use the strap to secure its position when roll-up. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The material we used to construct the main body is wood plastic composite board, it is a material that is sustainable, lightweight, and durable, commonly used in building construction. The product is planned to be produced in the furniture factory due to its similar structure and material to a cabinet. In the design process, we have looked into regular pet houses and the data on the size of different pets, to make sure our design can meet most of our consumer needs. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Dimension: 600 mm x 600 mm x 600 mm (Normal) 1150 mm x 600 mm x 600 mm (Expanded) Package: 750 mm x 750 mm x 360 mm Material: WPC board, Canvas, Stainless steel TAGS: Expandable, Convertible, Flat-pack, Pet House, Indoor, Outdoor,Camping, Patio, Backyard RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Through statistics research and field trips, we discovered that despite the fast-growing pet economy, the product in the pet house category stayed much the same for years without much progress, and we found out that many consumers struggled to choose the right size for their pets, resulting in multiple purchases due to pet growth or moving houses, we see it as a problem and decided to delve into it. As a result, we came up with Cubiventure, an expandable pet house that serves as both a house and camper van depending on where the consumer puts it, with durable sustainable material and multi-function, aiming to increase the living experience for both our customer and their pets. CHALLENGE: One of the key challenges is to make sure the whole product is both technically and financially feasible, this required us to make connections to experts in production in search of appropriate material and mechanical parts. We also have to look into the interactive side of the design, to make sure it is easy to use, durable, and also pleasant to the eye.
