INSPIRATION:
Directly inspired while making a prototype simply out of a warped piece of paper. The curved surface within the 4-side boundary shows an interesting property of tension and contrast. Being a light but deceptively durable one-piece, it also pays homage to pioneers and their work, such as Eames and Panton.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The Cape chair is an unibody chair with simplistic yet dynamic design. Inspired by a warped piece of paper, the contrast between its sculptural form and clean, geometric lines creates a confident stance and a sophisticated look. The high-gloss finish and five brilliant color compliment the flowing form. The Arc-shaped high-back design offers extra comfort and a sense of privacy, especially in public space. Its stackable feature makes it easy to store or transport.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Interaction with users is generated from the appeal of its organic yet composed form. The Cape chair aims to be perceived as an art piece at first, then provide the fulfillment of its competent utility and comfort. Since it targets public use, the arc-shape high-back design create a sense of privacy. It's stackable so that people can stack up to 4 of them for easy storage and transportation.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in December 2022 and finished in April 2023 in California, US.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
It's molded one piece out of fiber glass, then polished and painted with high gloss finish and 5 customized colors.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
Through a series of surveys and studies, design research revealed that one of the most important property the clients look for on furnitures in public space is the eye-catching aspect: something attracts audiences' eye sight and make them want to take a try. It promotes their overall impression of that space and creates more memorable experience. The Cape Chair is aspired to be like an art piece to fulfill that demand.

CHALLENGE:
The biggest challenge to create a one piece Chair is always the balance between stability and aesthetic. The designer went through a lot of analysis and prototyping in order to make it durable while keep the original design intent uncompromised.
