| DESIGN NAME: Anywhere Door PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residence INSPIRATION: Home is the place where the personality and characteristics of a family can be best expressed. Because of their professions, the couple's first impression is that they are intellectual, aloof, and introverted. However, after spending a lot of time with them, people will discover their lively souls. Rationality and harmony are the conflicting factors that can best express the aesthetics of art. Therefore, the design team took the concept of the classic pantomime master, Chaplin, and created a comfortable residence that can present the family's personalities with grayscale and playfulness. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Chaplin's Anywhere Door: Chaplin specialized in using all kinds of small objects as props for his performances. Everyday objects such as crutches and wrenches are given a unique soul by him. The curves in the interior convey a playful and lively sense of rhythm as if defining a sense of mediocrity for the space that is different from that of the hustle and bustle world. Chaplin's Mustache: Chaplin's mustache is the classic identifier. In this project, black is used as a visual focal point. Black vintage tiles and black wood veneer serve as highlights. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The project is customized according to the family's personalities, and the client loved the ambiance of the overall design. Apart from the aesthetics, the functionality of the home is also perfectly suited to the family's daily needs. The design team installed a dishwasher, planned a sliding glass door to block grease in the kitchen, and preserved an additional storage space underneath the bed. In a playful and harmonious space, bright paintings are a great way to bond with the family. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project finished in December 2023 in Taiwan. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Material: artistic paint, plaster, gray mirrors, tile, wood veneer, chandelier, pegboards, terrazzo, etc. The project presents a natural and minimalistic gray tone with plaster. Together with the backdrop of sunlight, it can be nicely colored to create a comfortable visual experience. In the color scheme, in addition to the grayscale, the same element as that of pantomime is given to the selection of materials. Gray mirrors, pegboards, terrazzo, etc., shape a pleasant, playful, and lively atmosphere. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The site is a new apartment totaling 71 square meters with 3 rooms, a living room, a dining room, and 2 bathrooms. The theme is Anywhere Door. The transition of each area is shaped by the arches. The geometrical form of the arches affects people's inner mood. The design team divided each area according to people's actions. The open plan of the social area provides a great visual experience. The roundness naturally connects the rhythm of the space, allowing people to appreciate the interior as if they were watching a stage play. TAGS: Chaplin, grayscale, pantomime, Random Door, Minimalist, curves, plaster. RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The project is called 'Chaplin's Anywhere Door' because it is customized according to the family's personality and implemented in the space. Underneath the intellectual and systematic personality, there is a playful and humorous soul. Black, white, and gray are the base, supplemented by curves to outline a playful and fresh feeling, while the arch defines the boundary of each area. The design team compared the arch to an anywhere door. As one passes through them, one's mood can change. CHALLENGE: The ductwork and beams could not be modified, which limited the ceiling design. Especially in the master bedroom, there was a beam at the head of the bed, which is obviously against Feng Shui. To avoid the oppressive feeling, the design team created upper and lower cabinets on the bedside wall to minimize the sharp angle. Moreover, the clients want to have a dust area and a closed kitchen, so the design team utilized the concept of an 'anywhere door' to perfectly separate the areas.
