DESIGN DETAILS |
DESIGN NAME: Mask World
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Science Fiction Visual Storytelling
INSPIRATION: The design comprises a series of images that have been influenced by various dystopian novels, most notably "The Three-Body Problem," "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" and "Brave New World." Currently, our world is grappling with war conflicts, plagues, climate change, and geopolitical crises. The society of humankind is undergoing profound changes. Our gaze is beginning to turn towards the science fiction world, prompting us to question whether this is the world we desire or if we are destined to be a part of it.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The design of Mask World aims to illustrate a potential visual aesthetic for a science-fictional concept. The ambiance and mood of these works are meticulously preserved through intricate depictions of machinery and architecture, complete with believable functions and mechanisms. Each individual artwork features a distinct camera angle, showcasing a spectacular city panorama and emphasizing the epic scale in comparison with humankind. Additionally, they showcase urban areas dedicated to functions such as resource exploitation, transportation, or censorship systems existing in different levels. The immersive world-building is skillfully woven through the utilization of these techniques.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Mask World is a personal project focused on the visual concept of science fiction visual storytelling. The audience can engage with each artwork and may be interested in learning more about the narratives behind them.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: 4 months
FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Computer Graphics, 3D Modeling, Texturing, and Rendering Design
|
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: As an artist, I began by searching for inspiration both visually and through literature. Meanwhile, I created sketches and mood paintings to explore the storytelling potential. I crafted blueprints for machine structures and architecture for 3D modeling and pursued a highly realistic cinematic render using the most updated rendering software in the industry.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: All the final images were rendered in 5000 pixels in 3DsMax with cinematic aspect ratio.
TAGS: Science Fiction, Concept Design, 3D render, 3D model, Cinematic Narration
RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research for this project involves delving deeply into various architectural genres, such as brutalism, metabolism, and modernism. This exploration aims to understand how human beings are profoundly influenced by highly functional machines that serve industrial and financial capital. The visual style research includes the animated feature film "Akira" and the comics of Moebius.
CHALLENGE: As an artist, I need to start by narrowing down the idea and conducting research focused on specific fields, such as different modern genres of architecture. It's essential to ensure that these styles come together cohesively within the project. Additionally, I will need to focus on compositional design to ensure that the subject's focal point is clear, allowing the narrative to be felt effectively.
