DESIGN NAME: Plongereclat
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Jewelry
INSPIRATION: BIZOUX has a prime collection of loose gemstones from all over the world. Plongereclat was inspired by the unique boulder opals. Derived from the French words 'plonger' (to jump into the water), and 'éclaire' (flash of light). The scene is portrayed by the boulder opal. Edged by two shapes of diamonds, the brilliant cut represents the sparkling splashes, while the tapered shape draws the vigorous trajectories. Sapphires and emeralds are added as the overflowing blues and greens of the opal.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This necklace and earrings set features an Australian boulder opal as the centerpiece, decorated with diamonds, sapphires, and emeralds. The main boulder opal has a smooth but wavy surface, a natural creation. Its wavy form, beautiful green and blue marble pattern evoke the sense of the sea. The designer envisioned a romantic moment, imagining that if one were to jump into this sea, the colors and splashes of light would scatter like precious jewels. This vision is captured in the jewelry.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The necklace and earrings can be easily worn by opening and closing the clasp located at the back of the chain. They are lightweight and designed for stress-free wear. Wearing this set will elevate your outfit, adding a touch of glamour and elegance.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The production of "Plongereclat" began in November 2022 at our office in Nihonbashi, Tokyo. The design drawings and detailed sketches were created at BIZOUX's atelier, and the piece was made in a workshop located in Kofu City, Yamanashi Prefecture, one of Japan's leading jewelry production centers. The work was completed in February 2023 and is proudly showcased at GINZA SIX, a prestigious luxury shopping complex in Tokyo's Ginza district.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Use K18 yellow gold for its durability and ubiquity. Natural gemstones are carefully selected and purchased, crafted with Australian opals, diamonds, sapphires, and emeralds. The smallest one is only 1.2 mm in size. Totally 69 pieces of gemstones are arranged in the necklace, and the frame was designed by 3D CG individually. After the casting process, the stones are prong-set by skilled craftsmen’s hands. Even the gaps between the smallest parts are polished by hand to the utmost perfection.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The designers studied the expressions of the sea, which was chosen as the motif, and created a series of rough sketches capturing the movement of the water's surface and the dynamic splashes. Using design software, they selected the balance that comes closest to natural beauty from the sense of rhythm created by subtle variations in the arrangement of gemstones. Within the small world of jewelry, there is a profound respect for the majestic and mysterious nature.
CHALLENGE: The edges complement the boulder opals’ natural beauty, forming delicate bars by connecting assorted sizes and shapes of gemstones. Highly skilled craftsmen are required to achieve the instruction with 0.1 mm precision. The connected parts of the bars are designed at varying heights, creating 3D shapes that evoke the realistic movement of water splashes. Despite its delicate appearance, the piece is repeatedly adjusted to ensure durability and maintain its strength as a wearable jewelry items.
