| DESIGN NAME: Iris PRIMARY FUNCTION: Wall Light INSPIRATION: Inspired by the captivating beauty and anatomy of the human eye, the Iris project combines art and functionality. Meticulously crafted, the lamp replicates the precise ratio between the iris and pupil, resembling an average human eye. The black chrome finish on the pupil allows for a reflective surface, enabling viewers to see themselves in the part of the eye responsible for vision. This design element adds a philosophical dimension to the artwork, inviting contemplation. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Iris Wall light: a captivating fusion of art and functionality. Crafted with precision and high-quality materials, it celebrates the human eye. Subtle eye portrayal, customizable colors, and advanced LED technology make it versatile. Each handcrafted lamp ensures perfection. Specially designed mounting enables easy installation. Iris creates captivating ambiance in hotels and private spaces. An innovative, high-quality, unique artwork. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The Iris lamp features an integrated LED lighting system that can be wirelessly controlled through a mobile phone or remote control. Users have the freedom to adjust the lighting color, brightness, and choose from a range of lighting modes. This seamless interaction allows for personalized lighting experiences, whether it's creating a soothing atmosphere or setting a dynamic and vibrant ambiance. The control options elevate the overall user experience, providing functionality and versatility. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project commenced in early 2022 in my studio, with initial designs and research focused on design and manufacturing. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The Iris wall lamp is meticulously handcrafted in my studio. Its form, inspired by a contact lens, is shaped from aluminum to achieve both aesthetics and functionality. With my unique painting technique and the black chrome finishe, it exudes a captivating and distinctive appeal. High-quality LED lighting ensures energy efficiency and adjustable illumination. Effortless installation is ensured through a custom-designed mounting structure. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The Iris wall lamp measures 92cm in diameter and 12cm in depth. The outer shell has a diameter of 92cm, while the inner shell has a diameter of 38cm. Additionally, a version measuring 180cm x 25cm is available. It is crafted from hand-formed aluminum and features a fully painted finish. The suspension system is made of aluminum and steel. The light source consists of an integrated LED strip within the mounting bracket, which can be customized to offer colored lighting options upon request. TAGS: Eye, Lamp, Wall Lamp, Human Eye, Eye Light, Iris RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Capturing the complexity and beauty of the human eye was a challenge, especially with my unique painting technique. The curved shape required multiple shape templates for the painting. Local manufacturing of the shells was difficult due to limited steel pressing expertise. However, the assembly bracket and integrated light source proved to be the most difficult. Finding the optimal position for the light source to illuminate the entire shade without being directly visible was a meticulous task. CHALLENGE: Creating custom patterns for the individually shaped aluminum shells was challenging and costly. The light had to be concealed while effectively illuminating the entire lamp. The eye's proportions guided the design, necessitating adjustments to the light placement. The production of the mounting bracket and integrated light source required careful planning and collaboration with skilled professionals. NAME: Bolliger Studio PROFILE: Bolliger Studio is an art and design studio based in Baden in Switzerland. Fabian Bolliger focuses primarily on one-of-a-kind furniture, light installations, and paintings. The uniqueness and high quality of his artwork are particularly important to him. By combining traditional carpentry techniques with modern design, his works become functional and aesthetic experiences that transport the viewer into another world. Thanks to his experience as a carpenter, he is familiar with a wide range of materials and can solve almost any structural problems that arise during the design and production of his artwork. |
