DESIGN NAME: Horizontal Long Mesh
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Bonfire Stand
INSPIRATION: Fire pits made of stainless steel mesh are popular and numerous, but while they have the advantage of being lightweight and compact, they have the disadvantage of being vulnerable to wind and difficult to cook with.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Most ordinary mesh-type fire pits have the mesh supported from below, but this product has a concave mesh structure that hooks onto the side frames, a structure that did not exist before and for which a patent was obtained (patent 7249692). This unique structure eliminates the weak point of conventional mesh-type fire pits, which are vulnerable to wind and difficult to cook with, while at the same time realizing the unique value of the beautiful flames shining through the mesh.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This fire pit was created by an ironworker who is also a camper. The stainless-steel mesh with high combustion efficiency is shaped in a concave that is less susceptible to wind. By using a trivet, a heavy Dutch oven can also be used. It is designed to allow the flames to be seen for its beauty and ease of cooking over an open fire where you can always see the heat level. Tough, minimal, and logical structure with an exquisite finishing. It is true craftsmanship quality that you will appreciate every time you use it.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This product was launched in Japan on September 1, 2021

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Conventional mesh-type fire pits were used with the mesh spread out, but while they were lightweight and compact, they were vulnerable to wind and unsuitable for cooking. The mesh is then hooked onto a frame made of stainless steel (which can be assembled and put away in less than 30 seconds), creating a situation where the mesh can be used in a concave shape. The mesh is woven in a way that allows air to pass through without allowing ash to pass through, resulting in high combustion efficiency even in strong winds, and even large pieces of firewood ash up nicely. The frame can also be used for easy cooking by hooking the stove to the frame. At night, the flames through the mesh are very beautiful, and you can watch the wood gradually turn to ash. The ironworker, who is a camper himself, developed this product under the direction of an outside designer to achieve both functionality and aesthetics.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: With the outdoor boom that began in the late 2010s, camping for a small group of one or two people has become especially popular, and a variety of outdoor gears have been sold. Among them, fire pits made of stainless steel mesh are popular and numerous, but while they have the advantage of being lightweight and compact, they have the disadvantage of being vulnerable to wind and difficult to cook with. The new design has a stainless steel frame (which can be assembled and put away in less than 30 seconds) and a structure that hooks onto the mesh, creating a situation where the mesh can be used in a concave shape.
CHALLENGE: The main focus of this product was to hold the woven stainless steel mesh in a U-shape with a frame, but it was also a portable product, so it needed to be compact and lightweight. Therefore, it was necessary to consider a variety of structures that could be easily assembled with a minimum of parts.
