DESIGN NAME: Chuan San Hao
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Train Hotpot
INSPIRATION: The iconic green-skinned train, a symbol of China's railway passenger transport for 50 years, holds a nostalgic place in the memories of two generations. Its slow pace allowed people to chat about simple daily life, accompanied by the comforting "clanging" sound, creating quiet and warm nights. As high-speed rail covers over half of China, there is a need for the tranquility from history to rekindle sincerity between people in our fast-paced lives. Inspired by Mr. Ma Yin, the founder of Anaya, we are on a journey to capture that enthusiasm through spatial design.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Opting for authenticity, our restaurant features genuine green-skinned train carriages, preserving their time-worn charm. Before their arrival, parallel train tracks are laid along the wetland shoreline, maximizing scenic views through windows and fostering a connection between nature, space, and human emotions. To maintain the uninterrupted beauty of the wetland, we strategically place the kitchen in the middle carriage, efficiently connecting individual passenger and compartment carriages to the north and south, ensuring a seamless dining experience without disturbance from service personnel.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Nothing
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project commenced in May 2021 at Anaya, Qinhuangdao, and was completed in May 2022 at Anaya, Qinhuangdao.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Concealed within the mixed-oil wood veneer are insulation materials and dual exhaust systems. The original train exterior is polished and repainted, preserving the authentic green-skinned train structure. Interior adjustments accommodate base settlement, and concealed ventilation ensures comfort. The carriage is enhanced with an intermediate space for connectivity, integrating air conditioning, kitchen, and exhaust systems seamlessly.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The added space effectively addresses challenges in three dimensions:
Extreme Environmental & Climate Conditions: Situated on the northeastern coast of China with varying climates, the old train carriages lack insulation. The added space serves as an airlock to regulate internal temperatures and block mosquitoes.
Functionality & Circulation: Separating food preparation from the dining area avoids interference between customers and service personnel. Placing the kitchen in the middle carriage streamlines operational circulation.
Visitor Experience: To combat lingering odors from hotpot dining, especially in variable climates, a storage room within the added space prevents clothing absorption, enhancing the overall travel experience.
CHALLENGE: Private dining carriages include VIP and semi-private sections. The VIP carriage accommodates ten guests with its own dining area, separate resting space, and an outdoor balcony. Semi-private sections, divided by wooden partitions, balance customer privacy with an open and airy ambiance.
