| DESIGN NAME: Flatiron PRIMARY FUNCTION: Lamp INSPIRATION: The combination of the world of origami and the world of architecture is what is at the base of Flatiron family. The name itself has two meaning. First is a reference to the famous building in Manhattan with a triangular shape. Than explains how it is made, starting from a simple flat sheet of iron. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Flatiron is a collection of lamps characterized by a structure that is as essential as it is of great visual impact. A laser-cut metal sheet with a single fold, this is enough to have a product with great prominence. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Simply plug the lamp, press the dimmer and you can turn on or off the lamp and dimm the intensity of light PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Development of the project took 4 months and took place in Milan FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Lighting Products and Fixtures Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Lasercut metal sheet with a single fold for the structure. Dimmerable LED strip as a light source. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 350mm x Depth 200mm x Height 1900mm TAGS: Lighting, lighting design, design, winner, italian design, egle, floorlamp, lamp RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Starting from a deep research on floor lamps, we focused then on understanding which could be the right kind of light source. Because the aim of this product is not to be a technical lamp, but to be an decorative ambient lamp, the diffused light is the right choice and the shape of the structure itself orientates the beam. We invested a lot of time in the selection of the right light source because we wanted it to be warm and dimmerable. CHALLENGE: Bruno Munari once said that to complicate things is easy, while to simplify things is very hard. Achille Castiglioni was convinced that the designer should delete, delete, delete and at the end find the core aspect of the design. Flatiron comes from the combination of this two references. A simple metal sheet with just one fold that encases the light source. The challenge has been to reduce the project to the minimum amount of elements.
