| DESIGN NAME: Blue Water Bliss PRIMARY FUNCTION: Decorative Laser Cut Map INSPIRATION: The idea dawned upon the artist in a serendipitous moment while perusing the internet for laser cutter inspiration. Through extensive experimentation, studying the works of fellow artists, and enduring a multitude of trials, a distinct artistic style emerged. A profound appreciation for the blue water areas evolved, symbolizing the profound depths and expansive expanse of our planet's oceans. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Blue Water Bliss design stands as an extraordinary portrayal of coastal allure, distinguished by a fusion of meticulous artistry and visionary craftsmanship. Key Features: - Artisanal painting: Every map is meticulously hand-painted, imbuing it with a unique character and a personalized essence. - Multilayered construction: The design comprises four layers, incorporating a meticulously hand-painted water layer, intricately cut MDF land segments with engraved details, and pristine white-lacquered roads. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The operation and interaction with this design are intuitive and user-friendly. The Laser Cut Maps can be admired and displayed as decorative pieces, bringing a touch of artistic beauty to any space. There is no complex transformation or specific operation involved. The key frames of this design are the intricate layers that create a sense of depth and dimension. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The Laser Cut Maps project commenced in January 2023 in my design studio located in Luebeck, Germany. The development and realization of the project spanned over a period of six months, involving planning, research, and artistic exploration. The final maps were completed and made available for purchase through my online shop in August 2023. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: In the creation of Laser Cut Maps, a diode laser cutter is employed to ensure precision and accuracy. The intricate design begins with the base layer, where skilled craftsmanship brings hand-painted water to life. Using an MDF wood board and acrylic paint, the artist meticulously captures the essence of water, while a wave pattern emerges through the careful stamping of crumpled aluminum foil. Moving to the second layer, also crafted from MDF wood, attention is given to engraving intricate details of small streets and parks, enhancing the overall realism of the map. As we ascend to the third layer, the focus shifts to larger roads, such as highways and freeways, skillfully cut and meticulously painted in a clean white hue. Finally, the top layer, made of plywood, becomes the canvas for engraving the name of the city, adding a personal touch and completing the captivating Laser Cut Map. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width: 330mm (incl. frame) Height: 330mm (incl. frame) Depth: 15mm TAGS: Laser Cut Map, Custom Made Map, Gift, Housewarming, Wall Decoration RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research for Laser Cube - Custom Made Maps focused on understanding customer preferences and developing a design methodology based on their feedback. Through in-depth interviews and customer feedback, the design approach was refined to create personalized maps that resonate with customers. This research-driven approach has resulted in unique and meaningful custom-made map products. CHALLENGE: The most significant challenge encountered during this design activity was achieving the perfect color balance for the water element to harmonize with the wood. The goal was to create a visually appealing and cohesive design where the blue water seamlessly blended with the natural tones of the wood. This required meticulous experimentation with various acrylic paints to find the ideal shade and texture that would complement the overall aesthetic of the Laser Cut Maps.
