DESIGN NAME: White Folded Lines
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residence
INSPIRATION: The site is on a high floor with good lighting. The client seeks a bright and tranquil atmosphere in the home, so white is used as the main visual to bring out the daylight. In addition, the design concept is the folding of surfaces to create lines. The folding line has multiple functions and meanings, linking each field and enhancing the function. The designer strives to find a balance between aesthetics and functionality to bring a different kind of comfort to a family of four.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: White Folded Lines is from the designer's analysis of the site's favorable conditions and the maximization of daylight. The term, white fold, is a 3D concept that refers to the folded paper-like design. The first folding is the ceiling and walls, allowing sunlight to paint the interior and reveal the layers of daylight. The second folding is for practical function, with the folding lines arranged in a staggered manner to create a functional design and bring out the fluidity of space.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The project includes presenting the advantages of lighting, the function of the public area to meet the usage habits of a family of four, and the storage between the areas. In particular, the designer portrayed daylight brightly and comfortably, echoing the preference of clients who like the natural atmosphere. Moreover, the designer displayed the materials that fit the client's personality in a low-profile way, making the material texture a subtle highlight.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Building materials: eco-friendly latex paint, oak wood veneer, system cabinet, iron parts, marble, fabric, oak flooring, etc. According to the lighting of the site, the color scheme is pure white. To make the space more diverse, the designer used different textures of materials to create a layered and delicate white space. The diverse white texture makes the whole space delicate and impressive and creates a harmonious interaction of light and shadow with the sunlight entering the room.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The site is a 12-year-old apartment on the 21st floor with a total area of 205 square meters. The interior is divided into three bedrooms, a living room, a dining room, and three bathrooms. According to the lighting condition, the designer arranged windows in both public and private areas to form a bright space that enhances life quality, and strengthened the function of the master bedroom and living room. RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The white folding lines define different domains and bring out the fluidity of the space. They also give new functionality and visually integrate different facade materials. The project uses linear geometry, different white materials to create a living space with an interaction of light and shadow while echoing the greenery and sunlight outside the windows. The designer uses a progressive approach to create a pure and serene atmosphere, bringing the space back to its most natural and calm tone.
CHALLENGE: The wall behind the head of the master bedroom has two side windows. Too much sunlight could hinder sleep, so the designer installed white panels to cover the windows, allowing flexibility to adjust the light in the room according to the context. It is worth mentioning that there are many beams and columns on the site, resulting in discontinuous wall surfaces. The layout is deliberately arranged to accommodate the irregular spaces to achieve continuity and meet the client's storage needs.
